Memphis-Rice

Postby BYUfan1 » Wed Jan 25, 2012 11:36 pm

The Memphis Tigers relied on their defense to defeat the Rice Owls 73-51. Rice had 8 assists in the game while committing 18 turnovers. Memphis turned those Rice turnovers into 21 points. For the game, the Owls shot 40.5% (17-42) from the field while the Tigers shot 42.9% (27-63). Chris Crawford led the way for the Tigers by registering 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. Antonio Barton made three 3-pointers on his way to 11 points for Memphis. Reserve center Omar Oraby had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 blocks for the Owls. Tamir Jackson came off the bench to score 10 points in the losing cause for Rice.

In a game that was both choppy and sloppy, the main source of excitement came when Rice's Jackson was called for a flagrant foul while trying to stop a layup by Memphis' Joe Jackson. Tamir Jackson was ejected from the game for the Owls while Memphis had Trey Draper, Tarik Black, and Will Barton ejected for leaving the bench although a fight on the court never erupted.
