Big Weekend In the MAAC

Postby BYUfan1 » Mon Feb 13, 2012 1:50 pm

The important weekend for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference commenced on Friday night as the Loyola MD Greyhounds defeated the Iona Gaels at home 87-81. Both teams took the court with 11-2 conference records, so the Greyhounds took a temporary lead in the conference. I said temporary because the Greyhounds were back at home Sunday afternoon but came out flat and lost to the Fairfield Stags 68-51. Iona won at home Sunday night 83-74 against the Marist Red Foxes. The Manhattan Jaspers went on the road Saturday and defeated the St. Peter's Peacocks 85-63.

This week begins with Iona and Loyola again tied for the conference lead, this time at 12-3. Manhattan is 11-4, and Fairfield has won five conference games since losing to Iowa to now stand at 10-4 in the MAAC. Manhattan will be at Siena (6-9 in MAAC) Tuesday night. Wednesday's schedule includes Iona at Rider (8-7), Loyola MD at Marist (4-10), and St. Peter's (4-11) at Fairfield. All teams will take a break in MAAC play after Wednesday night as the entire conference is participating in Bracket Busters over the weekend. All teams are invited to play in the MAAC Tournament March 1-5 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.
