The Belmont Bruins used an early outburst of scoring to defeat the USC Upstate Spartans 88-79. The Bruins were up 11-2 less than four minutes into the game. With 11:46 left in the first half, Belmont was ahead 23-9, and the lead stretched out to 30-15 with 8:11 remaining in the first half. Belmont shot 47% (29-62) in the game while USC Upstate shot 42% (27-64).
Kerron Johnson led five Bruins in double figures with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Senior Drew Hanlen chipped in with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Freshman Ty Greene scored 18 points in the losing effort for the Spartans. The Bruins move their record to 22-7 and 14-2 in the Atlantic Sun while the Spartans fall to 18-11 for the season and 11-5 in conference play.
