Massachusetts-Xavier

Postby BYUfan1 » Wed Feb 22, 2012 12:07 pm

Chaz Williams scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Massachusetts Minutemen over the Xavier Musketeers 80-73. The game began sluggishly as UMass could not make shots while Xavier kept turning the ball over. Xavier had a lead midway through the first half and then the Minutemen went on a 14-2 to take a 30-23 lead. UMass led 41-29 at the half.

Williams dished out 9 assists to go along with point production. He made 6 of his 8 attempts from long distance. Raphiael Putney chipped in with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Dezmine Wells registered 19 points and 3 steals for the Musketeers in the losing effort. Xavier's usual leader, Tu Holloway struggled throughout the night, making just two of his 11 attempts from the floor and scoring just 10 points. UMass moves to 19-8 overall and 8-5 in the Atlantic 10 while Xavier falls to 17-10 and 8-5 in conference play.
