life is sweet

Postby Swamp Daddy » Sun Jan 13, 2013 2:55 pm

With UK going down in flames for the 5th time this season to mighty Texas A&M (newcomer to the SEC) , Dook losing to NC State  , and Louisville winning big last night against hapless South Florida, it was a fun weekend. We might even edge up to #2

Defending our new #1 ranking, we rolled UConn at their place after arriving cold (no practice there or even walkthrough) as weather delayed the plane until the last minute. First half erratic and we were down 6; second half we got rolling and they could not stop us.

15 point win.

Whoops, I swallowed a lemon drop :( . A lot of missed easy shots near the rim at the end; and, some late, bad plays gave Syracuse the win. They are good. As I recall in the last few years we've beat them numerous times when they were #1. Well, on to the next one. LOL.

You will be well seeded...this is what a tournament does...makes the season only relevant in respect to getting into the big dance. Football opts for the same. The world is coming to an end.

Well, a lacklustre performance against Villanova and a lot of foul shooting at the end did in Louisville. I sure hope this isn't a real mid-season slump; or, worse, a tailspin. I think things will right themselves; and, we've had trouble at Villanova for quite a few years.

I thought it would be a tough day on talk radio with everyone wanting to bash the team; but, with UKs loss to Alabama I imagine most talk radio around here will be putting UK fans on suicide watch.

Well, I got put out of fun things for 8 weeks or so; huge sewer backup in my basement. Lost a lot of stuff; but, nothing critical. Finally that mess is 'almost' back to normal. Next got rear-ended sitting at a stop sign (whine, whine); and, that is fixed (I hope) .

After some silly losses and a 5 OT loss to Notre Dame, UL has won 2 and should have 2 more 2 wins before traveling to Syracuse on March 2nd. We might make a 2 seed in the big dance, more likely 3 or 4; but, I'm hoping for a good run in the tournament some mid-March.

Best UK player did the ol-knee dance and is gone for the season and likely for good as he'll be drafted anyway. UK team is now clueless and suffered a whopping loss to Tennessee. We'll wait and see if they recover from this.

Well, we are approaching crunch time with only a few regular season games left. Tomorrow UL plays hapless Seaton Hall at home and should move into a second place in the Big East. 4 games after this, two tough ones against Syracuse and Notre Dame (both of whom beat us awhile back) and two easy ones vs. DePaul and Cincinnati.

Then, the last tough year of the BE conference post season tournament.

Next few games + tournament wins will determine our seed.

UL wins first two of the last 4 games. After stomping luckless DePaul at home they went to Syracuse for a hard fought win not settled until the last few minutes when UL actually hit some 3-point shots and nailed most free throws. UL 58, Syracuse 53.

Two more games to go, both at home. Cincinnati should be relatively easy, then the season ends with Notre Dame coming to town (UL lost to ND earlier at their place in one of those unusual 5-OT games).

With all the top 10 losses, UL should move back up the list toward a #2 seed.

Have fun, Swamp Daddy

With the win over Cincinnati, UL is now on a 6 game win streak with only one more game inthe regular season to go. A revenge game with Notre Dame here (they won in 5 OT up there awhile back). With Gerogetown losing last night it is mathematically possible for UL to win the BE outright, depends on Marquette now.

Already got the double bye into the BE tournament which will be the last of the tough, rock-'em, sock-'em, tournaments with the league virtually splitting in half for next year with the basketbal only teams leaving (the so-called Catholic 7), leaving UL, Cincinnati, Rutgers and few others plus a bunch of new football teams to have a short-lived league which will need to reorganize again. League swapping is coming to a peak again.

UK is teetering on the bubble; and, may not make the NCAA with another bad loss in the last two games. After 3 years of above average performance maybe Calipari's one and done system is showing it's weaknesses. UK fans, who live in the clouds more than most, will be pissed and probably hang him in effigy too.

have fun, Swamp Daddy 8)

I think Louisville is probably an Elite 8 team, maybe Final Four material. Kentucky is falling apart at the seams.

I always get the sense that Calipari is cheating somehow at Kentucky. He had a bunch of violations at Memphis and he seems like one of those guys that trouble seems to follow. I bet Kentucky will get hit with something in the next five years.

UL finishes the season with 3 revenge games. Beating Notre Dame last game of the season (we lost to them earlier); beating Villanova handily in our first BE tournament game (they beat us earlier). And, finally, doing in Notre Dame again in the second BE trournament game (making the 3 years in a row we've done them in in the semi-finals of the BE). ND has never made the BE tournament final.

UL now advances to the championship game of the BE, the last of the great tournaments in MSG.

UK pulls out a good win at home against Florida (back on the bubble); then collapses against lowly Vanderbilt in the SEC tourney game (blubble bursts agains). Calipari's ONE & DONE system shows it's weakness this year; and, his it's all about sending boys to the pros (get the recruits) and not about the school will probably stick in UK fans throats this year.

Duke choking may edge UL into a #1 seed in the big dance. We'll know in a couple of days.
