Sometimes the site goes through periods where it just crawls. I deleted a lot of the old photos (that slows it down some). I don't know why it does that, but it happens every once. Phpbb may be working on it or something.

Let's hope they get it fixed sooner than later ..... it is slow, very slow .... lots of database critical errors and even tine-outs by IE.

Is Matt aware?

I don't know if he knows about the latest or not. He does know that it happens from time to time. It is one of the pitfalls of this forum. It hasn't happened that often since the site went up, so hopefully it won't happen much in the future.

Glad my computer isn't the only one

Yeah, not sure what the problem is, he's not using PowWeb so that can't be it (he's said the board had some issues on that). I dunno.

Actually we are hosting this message board on PowWeb. The rest of the site is on a more expensive (and more reliable) server.

Because this message board takes up some MASSIVE resources (54mb of text alone) we couldn't afford to put the board on a really high-quality host. Besides, most of those high-quality hosts have issues with phpBB (security issues if the admins don't upgrade). Maybe now that our ad revenue from the main site is increasing dramatically (and we're about to install a single Google ad on here) we can front the extra cash to upgrade.

As far as the slow response... it's a medium-grade host and you're going to have some lag once in a while. Also depends on how many people are accessing the site (e.g. hundreds of spammers/robots) and possibly even your connection. I know that some DSL users experience a slow-down when there's a lot of rain... for whatever reason.

Just try and deal with the slow times until we can fix it for the long term.

Sorry it's a pain.

It isn't slow most of the time. It just has some periods of pain.
