There are some things not considered in the numbers in this article. Schools have different practices. Some have all the students take the ASVAB others don't give it, others just have those who chose to take it. (Many Advisors want students to take it who have no plans on going in to the Services. First, their kids, keep your options open and many like it as a practice vehicle before the SAT and ACT, and others like that the Military has a mapping for how ASVAB scores translate to SAT and ACT scores.) So there are those whoare out of shape or disqualified who take it, and some really smart kids don't. So it could work out to about the number they give.
What is sad, is this is the Army's minimum score! The lowest minimum of all branches. The Army isn't spilling over with these jobs...infantry (basic infantry with no specialty). Then the Marines will take kids with a score about 5% higher, but they don't take a great many of these! Then the Navy and the AIr Force require still higher and have very few people who get in with a near minimum score.
So you are likely talking about 1/4 of the kids can't qualify for what is literally 1 to 3 of the lowest requirement careers out of 100's in the Service! This is bad! So how many kids do you think really are prepared for College? If cheating wasn't rampant and they didn't have obsurd degree plans and classes the "Universities" couldn't charge more than $5 for a parking permit....because the empty spaces would be abundant!
