Thursday's Games

Postby Duke1632 » Thu Oct 31, 2013 11:59 pm

I hope many of you enjoyed the slate of entertaining games tonight as much as I did. Rice @ North Texas was a fun seesaw for a while. But I think the USF @ Houston was most surprising and entertaining. It really looked like USF might win after Houston fumbled the punt in the 4th Qtr. At any rate, I expect USF fans are very excited about the new (freshman) quarterback. He looks to have a ton of potential, and seems like a perfect fit for USF, who might start showing more improvement after every week. Do any of you have more insight here?

I think USF has a decent future ahead of them. They were on the rise before the Jim Leavitt incident really derailed their progress. White does look like a decent QB. His skills didn't look off the charts, but he looks like a guy that can throw some accurate passes which is a lot more than you can say about the other guys who tried playing QB for the Bulls this year

I didn't catch too much of the UNT/Rice and Monroe/Troy games. North Texas and Tulane are in the driver's seat in the West division. Nobody saw that coming.

I didn't see the Monroe/Troy game either, just some highlights. I would have picked Troy, but it seems Monroe got up early and never let up.

Right, there were at least 4 passes where he had such perfect touch on the ball, it sailed inches over short defenders, right in the pocket, so I have to believe he's particularly good at seeing the defense. Many other QB's, especially true freshmen, throwing the same ball, might have been a pick due to a mis-read or just not seeing (or accurately gauging) the shallow guys dropping back. I'm not talking Heisman or anything, but rather that his skill set seems to be a really good fit for the offense. Of course, I'm not especially good at judging those things.

Sounds like a good nominee for the unmentioned player of the week.

We used to have a thread somewhere, in which we chose a player we though had an impact performance, that the espns & general medias of the world tend to overlook.

They typically promote the usual cast of faces they want to distract us with. And so, we flirted with the idea that we could have a "College Football Poll Player of the Week" award.

What ever happened to that, anyway?
