Memphis needs a defense.
Thankfully for the Tigers, their offense has been been able to compensate. Fifteen days rest after the USF game won't be enough to counter that juggernaut Ole Miss offense, with the swiss cheese D presently employed by Memphis.

The strength of the team is certainly the offense. The defense is pretty young, losing all but 3 starters from last season. They are learning on the job, but the team is unbeaten and outdueled Bowling Green and now Cincinnati. Paxton looks to be a great leader and doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Can they beat Ole Miss, not likely but that is not the definition of a successful season for them. It would be make a huge wave nationally and huge for the team, school, and conf as a whole. However, this team is good enough to win the American and could win or be in the discussion til the bitter end, as the best "group of 5" team. I think the defense will be a lil more stout when the trip to Houston, late in the year. That will be the real measuring stick.

Almost Big 12 football....a lot of offense and not much of a defensive battle.

I don't think Memphis will beat Ole Miss, but I expect that to be a very competitive game. Memphis will be able to score on them as long as they stay away from Nkemdiche (sp?).
