Profiles in Coaching Stupidity

Postby Eric » Sat Oct 16, 2010 5:14 pm

I'm watching the Army/Rutgers game on ESPN3 when Greg Schiano has no timeouts remaining on the 30 yard line, tied 17-17. He gets his QB to roll from the right hash to down it on the middle and, for some reason, Army called timeout. Then, after thinking about it, Schiano decides to run a play after wasting a down on centering the football. Rutgers gets flagged 5 yards for a delay of game. Next play, Rutgers tries to throw the ball downfield to pick up the lost yardage and the QB gets sacked out of FG range.

Overtime :?

QB has to throw it away. Part of that sits with him.
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

It wasn't his fault though because he had no time and had to try to escape.

Well Rutgers pulled it off in OT. Schiano got away with that one.

Yeah...big win over Army!

Second idiotic play call of the day goes to Steve Spurrier. Chuck the ball in the end zone instead of kicking the FG on the 20 yard line? Awful decision.

Yeah, just watched that...terrible! Throwing into double coverage didn't help...the same D that whole drive. Kentucky was giving 10 and 12...not 20!

I wouldn't have had a problem with that call if he hadn't taken the time out. You take your last timeout with 15secs left, you can't run it, there is no point in throwing short of the end zone as it just makes a shorter field goal. He was obviously going for the win and passing it. Drop 6 in coverage and double everyone, and take the penalty if you have too.

Like the fake by Alabama last week. Your kicker doesn't have that kind of range, your not kicking it. Same with LSU, Miles took a timeout. You don't ice your own kicker and his kicker couldn't make the distance. I was like this is a fake for sure, and sure enough it was a neat one and worked but it should have been expected and defended.

The TO was the stupid part...but they also didn't move all that fast. But I put one in the ground then I throw it to the 7 to 12 yard line. (I can kick it from there, and I never was a kicker, and I am not just running my hole.) Then if you have 7 seconds or more I run 5 guys into the end zone. If not, take the FG, and go into OT.
