Roughing the snapper

Postby Dossenator » Sat Oct 20, 2012 3:58 pm

Anyone see this in Flor vs SC game? SC punting, ball is snapped, snapper hit well after snapped and not hit that hard, a flag thrown and said personal foul (roughing the snapper). Danielson and Lundquist could not believe a flag was thrown.

One of the worst calls I have seen in some time. And I have never seen a roughing the snapper penalty...ever.

A long snapper may not be contacted until one second has elapsed after the snap when the Kicking Team is in a scrimmage kick formation and it is reasonably obvious that a kick might be attempted. In this formation the snapper is afforded special protection since he is in a vulnerable position susceptible to injury. This special protection is a player safety rule. It only applies to the snapper on scrimmage kick plays who are in scrimmage kick formations where the kick is obvious.

I know the rule and it was a terrible call. Snapper was not touched for well past 1 second. He had snapped the ball and stood completely up before he was touched. No person in their right mind would have thrown a flag. And that is still the first time Inhave ever seen a roughing the snapper penalty called....and I watch a lot of football.

Yes, dumb call. But an impressive win by Florida nonetheless. Earlier I said that I don't think they deserve a #2 ranking....I've changed my mind now.

I'm not looking forward to them playing Ga next week, probably not gonna watch it, tired of Georgia and their coaching. Kentucky?????
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I was impressed by Fl today. I was shocked that Ga barely took care of Kentucky. Lowly Ark had Kentucky down 42-0 at halftime. That's why they play the games.

"ROUGHING THE SNAPPER?!?, I started at Center for 7 years (5th grade through H.S.) including punts and field goals/PAT's. I have never heard of Roughing the Snapper. I guess you learn something new every day! Funny it comes on a Saturday when I have my best outcome since I started playing PICK'EM.

I saw a few blown calls in the VT - Clemson game that only fueled my conspiracy theories about them. 17 - 10 Clemson, Third and short with Tech driving and Thomas spins from pressure of one person and they snap blew the whistle as soon as their was contact even though his pass was complete for a first down. They had to punt because of it. Clemson's next drive Watkins fumbles in their territory and the refs say he was down. It was clear he fumbled. VT challenged it and the replay said it stood, even the announcers couldn't believe it. Clemson went on to score. Their next drive the Clemson receiver shoves the defender away to get separation. Again the announcers couldn't believe it wasn't called.

At least OSU won. That was a thrilling win. Sorry Boiler I wouldn't wish that kind of loss on anyone.
