Week 7 Observations

Postby donovan » Sun Oct 13, 2013 11:37 am

Week 7 Observations

1. Oregon – Chip Kelly would have never let the chance to run up the score in the last two minutes like happened in Washington yesterday. Civility coming to Oregon, Old Ducker there is hope.
2. Boise State – Coach Petersen was out coached the last 2 minutes of the first half by Utah State’s Matt Wells. The lesson don’t take a knee when the opponent has two time outs left or they will block your punt and they will get the ball on your ten yard line and have three chances to score, though they fail, you are forced to block their field goal attempt!
3. Utah State – They are framing their program in the similitude of Boise State.
4. USC – Ogergon did the job, a quality win over Arizona. A lot more of that, including opening practices up to the media and some team building exercises during the week, may remove the interim. Nothing cements position like winning.
5. Georgia – Time Derek suited up. No more globe-trotting. And, Derek, Hope Obamacare gets into effect quickly, you players need some serious medical attention. (Ok pick yourself up off the floor that I even mentioned the name.)
6. Texas – Just when you think who cares… maybe Mack Brown can contend for he Big 12 Title and retire. After the Gatorade dump, I would not recommend Brown entering wet tee shirt contests.
7. Oklahoma-Emerson said, “Foolish consistencies are the hobgoblins of little minds and if you are playing football, they will bite you in your Sooner butt.”
8. Arkansas – I keep hoping. The chance to become my hero and they just gave South Carolina some fodder. Isn’t there a Texas team that Spurrier can coach, they like shinny cowboy pants, don’t they.
9. Michigan State – Big secret release, they do have an offense. Maybe a Big Ten contender, and then again, maybe not.
10. Florida – They loaned their offense to Michigan State.
11. Northwestern – I have never understood why this school is not in the Northwest, they may want to transfer the whole campus as they have fallen from grace.
12. Clemson – It all ends next week.
13. Florida State – See number 12
14. Washington – They are getting there but they need two more good recruiting years. They have some spoiling yet do, however. One of the travesties of this conference realignment is conferences do not play every team in a single year. Athletic directors must have been smoking something when they did all this realignment and the Presidents were probably in rehab.
15. Oregon – One more comment that they “look like the real deal” and I vomit, or drool… well the drooling I do regularly so that would not make a statement. I hope they continue on, and I am a Beaver fan. (I liked yesterday’s helmets.)
16. Penn State – Don’t draft your field goal kickers from the dollar store.
17. Michigan – Coach Hoke, is it possible to be more conservative in overtime?
18. Alabama – They really have nice looking cheerleaders. Maybe they are number 1.
19. Utah – For the team I said in preseason that everyone would wonder why the joined the PAC 53, they are the stars. (I watched them in person a couple weeks ago against OSU and you could just tell that teams better bring their A game, they are consistent and execute well, they just are not there with personnel.) Phil Knight should send them a gift for the one they gave Oregon.
20. Texas A&M – JM go pro. This guy makes Darren McFadden’s stiff arm look like a tap.
21. Oregon State – Mannion and Cooks continued their statistical typhoon. The civil war will be up for grabs. The score maybe 123 to 122 in someone’s favor.

I agree on most points. Especially that it ends next week for Clemson. They haven't played that well for a few weeks. I don't believe they can handle Florida State. The "other" divison of the B-10 will probably belong to Michigan State or Nebraska. Oregon is a complete team with a very good coach. Kelly's arrogance cost Oregon in the past and will kill him in the NFL. Georgia is snake bit this year. Sometimes injuries just kick your butt and this is one of those situations. Bite your tongue on Obama care. The largest tax on the American people since.....well ever....and sadly most Americans have no clue he passed a tax. Mack Brown's days are numbered. Even with the win at Oklahoma, he will not be the head coach next season. He will either be elevated to an insignificant position or fired. That remains to be seen. I think he will be director of the Texas state fair's football operations or something similar. Oklahoma proved how bad Notre Dame is...........my weekly Notre Dame shot. :P And I think Washington is a good football team now............that is all.

This is about as good of a recap that we can get from Michigan's most popular fan site

Yeah, Hoke couldn't have been more conservative. Nothing he did in overtime worked. The look on his face when nothing was working was one of helplessness. Like I said in the other thread, the worst loss the program has suffered in terms of context over the last five years.

My opinion has shifted from Clemson to Florida State. The Noles look legit. I think a shot at Alabama may be waiting in the near future, but first things first, Death Valley awaits. I think it'll be a great game, but FSU looks like the most complete team I've seen this year. Winston is undoubtedly one of the top five quarterbacks in the entire country and you can't say that about too many guys with less than a year of experience.

Florida State is for real. I don't see how the jump Oregon. Oregon isn't going to lose, their team is too complete to get beat without an injury to a major player on their team.

Alabama may or may not be undefeated.
They could still lose to LSU.

Should that be the case, then, fsu beating Clemson this next week, would showcase the east coast vs the west cost.

Oregon has the team to run the table. The Beavers may have been good last night, but they won't get past the Ducks.

Oregon State hasn't fared remotely well against Oregon in recent history, even when the Beavers have been good. I don't like their chances. The only team left that I believe is good enough to knock off Oregon is Stanford, although I could see UCLA doing something crazy either in the regular season or in the conference championship. Nobody in the Pac-12 other than Stanford has the defense to slow Oregon down and even Stanford's chances are in doubt. UCLA would have to hope that the Ducks tank on defense and that Hundley plays the game of his life.

I am not sarcastic, I think Phil Knight has the right to own all the college football teams he wants.

Oregon State can not keep up with the Ducks. No matter how improved they are or how many statistics Mannion has put on the board. We know that.

But games are to be played and results to be posted, not vice versa.

I was referring more to this:

You are right, about Phil.

He's willing to pour cash into Oregon, with the assumption he is King.

Maybe he and Pickens can get the Ducks & the Cowboys where they want them, and play for some sort of elite championship every year.

A couple a thoughts....

1. Georgia has not lost their last game. Injury's are killing us. No ground game ends seasons as quick as no defense. This was not a surprise. Disappointed but I completely expected the luck to run out if not this week, against Florida or Vandy.

Didn't get to watch the game because I spent all day out at The Great Georgia Air Show. 8) http://www.thegreatgeorgiaairshow.com/

2. I'm OK with USC starting to win now...  ....at least a few games, so that the world can see what a goofball Kiffin is......yes, my dislike goes that deep for some reason.

3. I'm in Tulsa Oklahoma this week for my 3rd of this project.....and there is NO ONE wearing their OU clothing and everything is very hushed.....   (misery loves company)
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.
