Auburn Vs FSU

Postby billybud » Sat Jan 04, 2014 1:46 pm

Who ya got?

Auburn

1...One of the best rushing teams in the country. Can also pass. Rushed for near 550 on Mizzou and 300 on Bama...passed and rushed for about 566 on Georgia. Strong in the trenches. Heisman finalist running back.

A clock eating offense.

2...Been tested in tight games and is used to playing when the score is close.

3...Defense against a full blown pass attack may not yet have been tested.

FSU

1...Has won games by an average of 42.5 points. Killed Clemson and Duke. Heisman QB and good receivers.

2...Has not been tested in a close game.

3...Has not faced a great rushing team. The Noles worst game was against BC, who was a rushing team.

4...But....Starting defense has not given up a rushing touchdown all year.

I've got Florida State, which is like the kiss of death in my bowl pick'em. I've missed the last six games I believe

The main reason is Florida State's execution. The guys are so solid around the board that they rarely mess anything up as far as turnovers, missed assignments, etc. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. If they blow out Auburn, I wouldn't hesitate to put them up with the all-timers.

I expect Florida State to press the receivers and fill the gaps on defense. I believe they will run away with this game.

Only for the sake of discussion and interrupting what else I am doing which is so incredibly boring. (I have seen the fewest number of games this year, in person, than I can ever remember. There is something about being there, talking to the person next to you, watching all the activity not on the field, that controls the game, that makes it like being live at a concert, the circus, rodeo or a baseball game...only a month or so until Spring Training..I am digressing)

So what could make this game interesting and needs to happen for Auburn to win.

1. A Blowout....not happening.
2. Auburn controls the field position. They have good special teams so that is not an advantage, but an equalizer. FSU has good everything, best Auburn can do is equal them.
3. Score early, Auburn can not get behind. That means the game could be over in the first quarter. And what happens if Auburn does not score early, then FSU will bury them. Then FSU will put in the 3rd and 4rd teams, who this year have had about as much play as the starters. So Auburn scores early to stay in the game.
4. This is the time for Auburn to call unpredictable plays. Nothing cute or fancy, needs to just pull out the whole playbook...and that is what Malzahn has done with his coaching, so they may work.
5. Marshall needs to be on top of his read game. I think he does that as well as anyone in the country.
6. And the most unlikely, they need to rattle Winston. McCarron got rattled the other night and we saw what happened. You can only get hit so many times and they next thing you are wondering if is going to happen again.
7. The team that blocks, tackles and hits the hardest will win. FSU 38 - Auburn 14

I do see it as a blowout. If not a blow out a game totally controlled by Florida State. I think Auburn will have trouble converting 3rd downs and that will stall too many drives.

Well, Vandy just won, and so I am now up to 15 correct choices in my Bowl Pick'ems.

I need Ball State & FSU to win in order to finish 1 shy of an above .500 score. :?

Eric...don't feel bad.

I didn't make picks..but had I, I would have blown as many.

Certainly would not have picked Clemson, Oklahoma, UCF, and many more.
