Yay!
It gives me a time out from watching baseball. I like watching the personnel unfold at each position.
Jameis Winston is two timing it...baseball and football spring practice. The kid is a phenom...He plays as a closing pitcher. Threw three innings as a closer last time out...struck out 7 of the 9 batters faced. He has allowed one run in 10 innings pitched so far this year
It looks like FSU will be running a 4-2-5 defense that morphs back and forth to a 4-3 and 3-4...hybrid players.
The RB's will be completely revamped....the third string RB last year, Carlos Williams averaged 7.0 yards a carry...so am expecting big things...the five star RB held out last year, Pender, has big play ability and that one-two combo should be good.

I thought FSU's backfield was underrated last year and with some new faces other than Williams, they probably will again. As long as their offensive line is about as good as last year, those athletes should produce on the ground. I thought Williams might have been the best back between Wilder Jr and Freeman.

Bobby Petrino says he likes what he sees at UL, good speed all around on defense. But, he wants the whole game to go faster. Basketball frenzy has kept most around here occupied with the old roundball and I've not gotten to go to any of the Spring Practice games.

Re: Sping Practice Started
Boise 'State has the schedule that should accommodate where they are as a team. Spring practice was a bunch of new coaches and a bunch of new players with a different offense and a defense that is using the same scheme. The highlights are the wide receivers are doing well. They QB's can throw well. Hedrick has the arm and field sense needed. The weakness is the the offensive line. Not so much in individuals on the team but the lack of really knowing their assignments. Defense is much better. Yates, the defensive coach has gone back to basics. He wants physical play and is spending an inordinate amount of time "teaching" tackling. I this will pay off.
Harsin is quiet as most head coaches are during spring training, so hard to say where he thinks is all shakes out. His sound bites are positive.
This seems to be a year if everyone does what they are capable of, they will be fine. If not...will not be good. A good selection of players, now just getting them to blend.

Re: Sping Practice Started
It will be interesting to see how Boise State responds to the new coaching staff. They have had a program and a system for quite a while now so they should do fine. I am looking forward to seeing several teams who's fans reside on this board to make a move this year. Along with Florida State's continued success. I do think that Florida State can only derail themselves this year. They were young last year. That should make them the odds on favorite to win the first playoff tournament.

FSU lost their starting Center, two starting linebackers, the starting DT, a starting safety, a starting CB, the #1 and #2 RBs, the #1 and #3 WR....
I hope that it will be a reload...but losing these guys will hurt.

Center will hurt. Florida State reloads linebackers and DB's. They should be ok at RB. They will need to have a WR step up.

Re: Sping Practice Started
Spring practice ended with the spring red/white game (now held during the Kentucky Derby Festival). 27,200 reportedly in attendance and it was fun for all. A very fast game with probable QB starter Will Gardiner shinning including a touchdown on the 3rd play of the first series. A talented core of running backs did well.
As with most coaches, Bobby P. liked what he saw but also saw room for a lot of improvement. The good is always followed quickly by the bad when you hear from most coaches. I'd say we won't step back much and should be vastly improved by the end of next season. Certainly there is more talent here to start with than their was when Petrino last became the coach; and, he can flat out coach players up.
So, our first ACC season may not be a disappointing step back as some thought.
