SMU has hired Sonny Dikes as their next Head Coach.

Not bad, since he was at Texas Tech from 2000 to 2006 as an assistant, so he is familiar with in state recruiting.

I think he is a good fit here. He wasn't quite ready for the Pac when he took the job at Cal. But this may very well be a school were he can regroup and flourish. I know he was an offensive analyst for TCU this season. Though, there is a big difference in formulating data that you hand off to someone else, and have them translate the information to the playing field; rather than, you having hands on experience yourself, dealing directly with the players.

Eric has been high on Sonny Dikes, wanting for somebody to hire him. Now we'll see if he was right.

Well, now I know why Jim Leavitt hasn't been mentioned much with regards to getting a head job.

Apparently, Leavitt has had a verbal agreement with Kansas State to be the coach in waiting and take over for Bill Snyder, in 2018, assuming he would retire after Snyder announced that he was going through treatment for throat cancer this past February.

Snyder Vetoed the deal because he wants his son to take over when he retires. And now [in what I feel is a strategic move], Snyder has announced that he will be staying on as the coach for next season.

Personally, I think Leavitt would be a perfect fit at Kansas State. His style matches pretty well with Snyder's, so the team is already in place. All he would need is a coupe short years of recruiting his guys into the skill positions, and you could see K State vying for the Big XII title.

I do not know how good Bill Snyder's son is as a coach ... or, anything else about him for that matter. Kansas St will never fire him, so he will be there until he decides it is time to go. But with all the respect he has garnered at the school, this just doesn't seem like a situation where he is going to get to name his successor.

Snyder may be able to hold out another 2 or 3 years. But he is 78 yrs old. So this may become a standoff between himself & the administration.

Frost's presence is already having an effect.

This is a huge flip. It will set the Vols back greatly. And Martinez is exactly the kind of Quarter Back that fits perfectly into Frost's offense.

And with Martinez enrolling early in January, will let him start at the beginning of next season. The Huskers could be ready to improve as soon as Frost first year.

Leach just signed an extension to 2022 for about 4 million a year. Some commitment for assistants salaries and an indoor facility. If he likes Pullman, and seems he does, he made stick it out. Would be good for WSU.

I dont see how Wazzu can compete with the big boys. Their stadium seats about 20,000 people and there isnt much of a TV market except Spokane

Well that is part of the problem. To attend one of their games, you have to fly into Spokane and then it's 1.5hr or so drive to Pullman.

Been there and Pullman is as much in the middle of nowhere as you can be. There are about 8000 residents and 20,000 students. Moscow Idaho, home of the Vandal is about 8 miles from Pullman. In the winter it is colder than a mothers-in-law kiss and in the summer sweat is the only moisture to be found. Though farms range in size, there are some exceeding 35,000 acres. Like Old Ducker says, not sure how they compete, but they do and I think the future looks bright for them.

No...and that may be an overstatement. It is not that cold in Pullman.
