The Suspense of College Football...

When I am watching games the standings or how much a team gains or falls in the polls isn't even a thought. I mostly look at the lines and see who are winning the individual battles. I do like suspence in the games - unless it is Ohio State then I want a big margin of victory. I don't have high blood pressure yetm but no sense in pushing it.

The effect on rankings...I do think of at the start of a game. And at the end (where this makes sense)...but all threw the game it is just about the game. (Except for ND, Michigan, USC, Miami, Chokelahoma) if they are losing nicely going into the 4th...then I do allow myself to let my hate blossom a bit! (I can literally watch their name falling down through the numbers.)

Suspense in an individual game is what I look for. Unless it is one of my two teams, I will normally only watch the games that have a spread of 10 points or less. If a team is favored by 28 or more points, the only way I will switch to view, is if there is an upset brewing.

How far a team drops in the polls gives me no interest. Competing for a division championship to make the conference championship game also adds interest for me.

A little off topic, but my normal Saturday goes like this. Take wife out to breakfast (I want to not even see her until Sunday). Turn on Gameday at 9AM and start checking emails to get the last entries in the two football pools that I conduct. Once all the picks are entered, I print out two sheets that have the games, gametimes and Directv channels coupled with everyone's picks.

Next, I mark the games of interest for me. This is determined by, if I have selected the game, a large number of people picking a particular side, or simply a top game of the day. At noon, I put my main game on the big screen and two other games of interest on the two TV's above the big screen. No alcohol will be involved until about 1 hour prior to either the Razorbacks or Hawkeyes kicking off, and the amount of booze will depend upon the closeness of the game. Reminder: go to liquor store to prepare for Saturday. (Arkansas @ Auburn and Iowa @ Michigan)

Usually, I head to the bedroom at halftime of the late game, but will set the Tivo, so at around 5AM on Sunday I can watch the finish.
