Re: Sportsmanship?
Maybe he did it as a tribute to Indiana for the beatdown they suffered earlier in the day. On the way to the endzone he checked the card and it said go down at the 5 don't score with 16 seconds left.

Maybe, that was ridiculous too. And bad for him, because it was a conference game - what comes around goes around and all of that. I will guarantee you that his Bielima's antics won' t be forgotten in Minny or Indiana and at some point there will be a measure of payback.

I wouldn't give a team 12 minutes...but 16 or so seconds? It is rare tio see a player on the way to a TD, just go down on the five. And the team then line up and take a knee to end the game.
Rare...I have never seen it, and I have watched four or five games in my lifetime.

I would guess at some point there will be several guys from other teams in the conference that have player that need work when they are playing him in the future. He isn't a great coach. He is still treading on Alvarez's coat tails. His day will come.
I never cared much for Tim Brewster and I am from the school that says if you don't want to be beat by forty points then stop them from beating you that bad, but when you play that team every year you better realize you have one coming.

Re: Sportsmanship?
With 16 seconds to go in a game; taking a knee on the opponent's five with no resistance & a wide open endzone is poor sportsmanship ...
It sends a message , that , you are unable to stop us , we are so much better than you , we will give you a pity play ... here , we stopped ourselves.
Seems more to me, as though someone felt they should have won by a much larger spread, and so, emphasized that point by stopping short of the goal ...
However, on the field of play, during a play, and continuing if it is a successful play; that is the mark of true sportsmanship ... stopping is not.

At about the :26 sec mark in this interview, he states that coach told him; If you break an open field run, just go down.

And call a timeout with a minute left too.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.
The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.
See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

So true....forty years after the Great Gator Flop, it is still part of the lore here in Florida. New generations of fans are indoctrinated and the Cane and FSU fans still revile the gators for their flop.

Well, that;
and because they are the gators ... ( you're not supposed to capitalize the g in the reptiles )

Right...never cap gators unless part of a title....like Great Gator Flop.
