Again the bowls are trying to make money, and drawing a Big 10 Team and an SEC team gives them the best opportunity for this. That is why they have signed on to those contracts.Jason G wrote:billybud wrote:In the SEC vs Big Ten Bowls...Ohio State will be the only team favored.
Bama vs Michigan St.....Bama favored by 11
If Bama beats Michigan State than we would have a three loss SEC team beating a one loss Big Ten team....not good for Big Ten bragging rights.
Penn State vs Florida in "Disappointment Bowl....Fla favored by 7
A match up of proud programs having a down year...but both are similarly situated in their conferences. Florida wins this game.
Miss St. vs Michigan....MSU favored by 6
Quick...hit your friends up for loans and put it on MSU before the line changes.
Ohio State vs Arkansas...Ohio State favored by 3
A one loss co champ Big Ten team vs a two loss SEC team. This should be the best match although Michigan State vs Bama may come close.
Four matchups between ANY two conferences in one bowl season is way too many.

3 underdogs for the BT. Win 2 and I'd say the SEC stinks! ......... Just wanna start somethin for you SEC rooters!

They could all win except Ohio State and the B-10 would stink.

Unless the games are all mostly lopsided, either way, I don't think an accurate conclusion can be made. This from and SEC/Big10 fan.

I think Wisconsin does well. People think Penn State might win, but I'm not buying it. I don't know about MSU. They have looked pretty good at times and they have looked pretty average at times. I don't think Ohio State can stop Arkansas' running game and Mallet will pick the zone apart if the DB's don't challenge their receivers on the line instead of playing soft, like they usually do.

2...Arkansas vs Ohio State...Mallett against a very good defense
NOT FSU vs South Carolina....a bad match up this year. Garcia at QB with giant receivers and Lattimore in the backfield. A bad mix for the Noles who haven't really figured out playing Stoops zone D. South Carolina should win handily.
3...VT vs Stanford...East coast vs west. A good throwing team can move up and down the field on VT. And, I noticed that VT can't mount much of a pass rush.
I'm trying to wrangle some tickets for the Peach, let me know if you come up.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.
The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.
See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Didn't have to against FSU.

No. 3 and No. 7 sackers in the ACC are on VT. VT ranks 8th in country in pass efficiency defense; Jayron Hosley tied for nat'l lead with INT's and Davon Morgan tied for 11th with 5. In ACC c'ship FSU had 200 yards in the first half and next-to-nothing in the second until last-gasp scoring drive that let you lose by 11 instead of 18. VT played mostly zone coverage and backfield contain on Manuel. Must've worked. We had 7 TFL's on you, 1 sack and - oh yeah - the win.

Re: Favorite Bowl Matchup?
If not for a fluke iNT caused by a diving LB tipping the ball to a defender looking the other way who juggled the ball when it hit him and then trotted into the end zone...FSU would have led at the half. VT had two score in the third to pull away but FSU did drive the field at the end.
VT was the better team with FSU playing Manuel instead of Ponder (and with FSU's O line shuffled because of injury and the #1 and #2 RB injured).
Tyrod had a fantastic game. oh well...that makes it two for the last fourteen that VT has won. This could heat up into a rivalry.

Manuel, for the back up QB, did well. He threw 23 for 32 on a nationally ranked pass defense (almost 75%).
And VT uses multiple disguised defenses that the kid hadn't had a lot of experience reading. I think we are set at QB for next year.

I was impressed with Manuel as QB. I don't think he had much at all to do with the loss. I tihnk most of that falls on the FSU defense for that game.

Does Alabama get up for the Spartans?
Great thread!
I don't know how the Big East will do this year. In my picks, I only took Pittsburgh out of the Big East. But at the same time, I'm really iffy on Southern Miss and NC State (Southern Miss is my 1 point pick, I think I have NC State 7). Clemson and Oklahoma will more than likely take care of business.
I don't see it? I got Pitt as the most likely to lose out of the Big Easy. If the games were played tomorrow I'd have USF in that spot.
UConn is the little Engine That Could and Oklahoma is the Big Dog That Should, Yet Doesn't....it is a Corso game, "Closer than the experts think!"
WVU will beat NC State by 11...in the first half. It will get ugly in the 3rd...34-6
