The Countdown Begins
Next Saturday I have a date in Austin. After this past Saturday I expect a big scoring game against the Horns. I am pretty sure that RB Alston will play which will easy the absence of FB Clarke. McCartney might play as well. Those 2 additions will help the offense a good deal. I think the Baylor game helped the defense, playing 3 different offenses, and 2 games worth of plays (while also being trapped on the field) provided good experience for the young guys and all still adjusting to the new D. I saw 1 Freshman (Joseph) get notably better as the game progressed and 2 others improve as well. Joseph will be a great one!
The Horns have impressed with increased offensive ability, especially in the passing game. And I still see a few areas to exploit on the D. But they did some growing up yesterday as well. I look for a good game and the Eers to win (and sure hope so....living down here...I won't be able to stand the Longhorn fans if the Eer lose.)

You have to pressure Geno...Baylor never put any kind of pressure on the QB...give a guy five seconds and defensive backs have a hard time covering.
If Texas can hold the Eers to 1.0 yard per rush like the Terps...it opens up the pass rush. And if Geno gets pressured as much as Maryland pressed, Texas might cut down on the scoring.

Agree, Texas will not stand back all day and enjoy a front row seat in the theater! But Baylor tried to bring some heat a few times...they got burned. But, you have live with some of that. Texas will be willing to live with some of that!
I don't get why defenses do the things they do. OK, it is a high powered offense. They will very likely score in 6 or 7 plays every time they touch the ball. Me, I'll take the rather small gamble inn that case and be very aggressive and try to get them off the field in 3 plays...if I fail...so what!

Baylor runs a 3-5 ...and when they blitzed, the Eer line picked it up...
FSU rushes a front four in the 4-3 and rarely blitzes...if your front four can't bring some preesure, it may be a long night.

WVU has the offense and Texas isn't quite the match on D. I see a WVU win.
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

Really?
I thought Baylor got burnt pretty much all game long, regardless of what they brought.

Re: The Countdown Begins
I believe that game was a combination of Baylor being bad on defense and West Virginia being absolutely flawless. On a few of those touchdown passes, Geno Smith needed to make the correct read and throw the ball in an almost perfect location. If Stedman Bailey or Tavon Austin beat the Baylor defensive backs by a single step, Smith was going to nail that throw. His accuracy has been off the charts this year.
Texas is weird because they were supposed to carry over their defensive talent, but the offense has exploded and the defense has struggled. I'm not really sure what to make of this game, but by the looks of it, it should be an even shootout. I'm giving Texas the edge at home.

Being a TEXAS AGGIE fan since age 7-8 I find it hard to pick tu, but sometimes there is no choice!
Re: The Countdown Begins
LSU started the season playing pretty well but the last three weeks have been abysmal. Florida however has been on fire the last couple of weeks and has a bye coming into the game.
Re: The Countdown Begins
Texas absolutely must pressure....they can not afford to give Geno 10 agonizing seconds (like Baylor did) to find the reciever that has broken free behind the defense.
Heck, any decent passing team will kill you if the QB has all day for the receivers to break free 40 yards down field.

Texas needs to play better defense or it will be another shootout. It is sad not many teams play defense anymore. Where is Mickey Andrews when you need him.

Since my Razorbacks are so terrible I am going to adopt a second team...West Virginia. I hope they beat Texas by a 100.

Ole Mickey is still seen at the FSU games and has been encouraging the guys....He has had a rough few years.
He stumbled through his last year at DC (there was not even a defensive playbook) when his adult son committed suicide on Mickey's front lawn. Mickey's beloved wife, Dianne, succumbed to cancer in August.

Sorry to here that. He was one of the great coaches in college football. Maybe the best defensive mind ever in college football. I always admired how he used his linebackers and safeties.
