Week 13 Meanderings

Postby donovan » Sun Nov 24, 2013 5:23 am

Number 10 sums up the week. Mediocrity in scheduling needs to work both way. We have consistently penalized schools that do not schedule well, time to do the goose what has been done to the gander. Don't look for that to happen.

1. Boise State: Who Cares? That system needs a star quarterback. They were made famous for a overtime win. Schedule Idaho and be happy.
2. Michigan: Al Borges, one of the best offensive football minds, needs to be done.
3. Michigan State: Is it a win to have to meet Ohio State?
4. Big Ten Legends: Was there a focus group on drugs when they choose this name?
5. Ohio State: Only top rank school that played anyone, will it make a difference?
6. Indiana: Their helmets were better looking than Ohio States.
7. Big Ten Leaders: see number 4.
8. Florida: You schedule FCS teams, you need to win. Muschamp may be available.
9. Old Dominion: They should play FSU after all, they both beat Idaho.
10. Losers in Week 13: Alabama, FSU, Clemson and South Carolina. Week 13, not week 2.
11. Fresno State: Don’t get your hopes up, the East Coast Syndicate is alive and well.
12. Stanford: They should have beat Oregon and then there would be no shadow.
13. Oregon: A loss to Oregon State will reveal the tissue paper tiger. A distinct possibility. You can’t win in ugly uniforms; I thought I had made that clear.
14. Arizona, the State: Best football per school in the country. 2 for 2.
15. Hawaii: Dang Warriors Fan, you deserve better.
16. Arkansas: Maybe they should get Harsin from Arkansas State…or call back Smith.
17. Notre Dame-BYU: How did I end up with these two in my fantasy conference?
18. Washington State: Leach is going bowling. I think there is a fit.
19. California: How does that happen?
20. Oregon State: See number 1. A thrashing, disappointing, Only I do no have them in oblivion..
21. USC: They will find a way to get rid of Ogeron.
22. Heisman: AJ McCarron, all the rest have done their best to not win this irrelevant award.
23. Baylor: They were never a consideration. Just a thorn in the a predestined system.
24. Tennessee: A new low in uniforms.

Hear hear.

8. Florida: You schedule FCS teams, you need to win. Muschamp may be available.

Honestly I can't say I'm too surprised at this outcome. Georgia Southern wasn't having a fantastic year in the Southern Conference as they already had four losses. But they run a triple option which isn't easy to prepare for on short notice and Florida's QB situation is so horrendous that you knew they weren't going to completely outpace Georgia Southern. I was expecting the Gators to pull it out at the end though. GSU usually plays an SEC team every year so they knew what to expect.

9. Old Dominion: They should play FSU after all, they both beat Idaho.

ODU has to give it a few years for the defensive recruiting to get up to FBS standards. And by that I mean maybe just low-end FBS standards  . People can make fun of ODU for letting UNC hang 80 on them, but I still maintain that they are on pace to become one of the better non-BCSers in maybe the next three years.

15. Hawaii: Dang Warriors Fan, you deserve better.

I say hire Nick Rolovich and bring back the run n' shoot. The run n' shoot was made for Hawaii. Hands and gloves. The only problem is that Norm Chow's buyout might be prohibitive and it would be more feasible to wait until after 2014, but Chow went on record saying he maybe wasn't "cut out" for being a head coach. Sounds kind of defeatist. He could resign.

18. Washington State: Leach is going bowling. I think there is a fit.

All I can say is, bravo. Mike Leach will get them humming in short order. The only problem is that the wins will be hard to come by in the future. I keep saying it, but the reason the Pac-12 looks so much better this year is because of the influx of coaching talent from the last couple years. When your worst mainstay coaches are Kyle Whittingham at Utah and Sonny Dykes at Cal, your caliber of play is going to be ridiculously strong from top to bottom. The jury is still out on Helfrich and we have yet to see what USC will do. But: Rich Rodriguez, Todd Graham, Jim Mora, Mike Riley, Steve Sarkisian, Mike McIntyre, David Shaw, Kyle Whittingham, Sonny Dykes, Mike Leach.

It lots easier to say reload than to do it. Boise State will be alright. Petersen just needs time to rebuild another team. They aren't as far of as people may think.
2. Michigan: Al Borges, one of the best offensive football minds, needs to be done.
I agree. I don't see how he survives this season.
3. Michigan State: Is it a win to have to meet Ohio State?
Michigan State is Stanford. The Buckeyes better be ready because they are built a lot like Oregon.
4. Big Ten Legends: Was there a focus group on drugs when they choose this name?
Just the idiot conference commissioner.
5. Ohio State: Only top rank school that played anyone, will it make a difference?
If anyone includes Indiana.
6. Indiana: Their helmets were better looking than Ohio States.
I like the silver helmets.
7. Big Ten Leaders: see number 4.
Same answer too. The names are going away next year. Clearer heads have prevailed.
8. Florida: You schedule FCS teams, you need to win. Muschamp may be available.
Lots of injuries should give Muschamp on more season. You still don't lose to an FCS school if you are Florida. See Michigan.
9. Old Dominion: They should play FSU after all, they both beat Idaho.
10. Losers in Week 13: Alabama, FSU, Clemson and South Carolina. Week 13, not week 2.
As long as Alabama and Florida State keep winning they are winners.
11. Fresno State: Don’t get your hopes up, the East Coast Syndicate is alive and well.
Tell that to Northern Illinois. [/color
]12. Stanford: They should have beat Oregon and then there would be no shadow.
13. Oregon: A loss to Oregon State will reveal the tissue paper tiger. A distinct possibility. You can’t win in ugly uniforms;I thought I had made that clear.
[color=#FF0000]I think the reveal has already been made. Uncle Phil will fix it.

14. Arizona, the State: Best football per school in the country. 2 for 2.
At the moment, I agree. Nice golf courses too.
15. Hawaii: Dang Warriors Fan, you deserve better.
16. Arkansas: Maybe they should get Harsin from Arkansas State…or call back Smith.
I feel sorry for the Razorbacks. No one deserves the last two coaches they have had.
17. Notre Dame-BYU: How did I end up with these two in my fantasy conference?
I was the fatal flaw in your fantasy picks.
18. Washington State: Leach is going bowling. I think there is a fit.
19. California: How does that happen?
They are bad, but they have some talent. They won't be down for long.
20. Oregon State: See number 1. A thrashing, disappointing, Only I do no have them in oblivion..
They have lots of talent too. One or two more pieces.
21. USC: They will find a way to get rid of Ogeron.
Worst decision from an school that has made lots of bad decisions.
22. Heisman: AJ McCarron, all the rest have done their best to not win this irrelevant award.
He would get my vote as well. If someone gets a second besides Archie, I don't want it to be Manziel.
23. Baylor: They were never a consideration. Just a thorn in the a predestined system.
If they would have handled Okie State they would have been in position, but we knew they weren't going to be Okie State.
24. Tennessee: A new low in uniforms.
There is only so much you can do with those colors.

One more regular season game. Where did the season go?

I am sort of surprised by FSU this year...

1...they lost their entire starting defensive front four and most of the defensive starters to the draft...11 draftees. And the defense still looks good.

2...the defense has scored 70 points (10 TDs)...more then the combined scores of their last six opponents.

3...the offense, resting their starters in the second half, is still the only college team to put up 40+ in each of their first 11 games.

4...As the point spreads get ever more outlandish...I was pleased to see that the Noles covered the 57 point spread with ease...

I bet you're wondering how florida manages to fit into your criteria.

Both Florida and North Carolina haven't done me any favors. Oregon beat me up last week. Go SC. :D
