Very true.I went on vacation to Colorado a few weeks ago, and went snowmobiling with my family.

I could not believe how many forms I had to sign to say that someone else could not be held accountable for something that had not even happened yet. We have grown fond of suing someone else.

and to add to the insanity.....we all pay a lot of liability money in case we are sued and they keep thinking up more ways we might be sued so they can issue new liability riders. One of the largest reasons physicians are leaving private practice is so they can get under the HMO's etc umbrella. It's real

I have a friend who is an obgyn and he quit the OB part for the same reason. He was tired of being sued. He takes everything to the end, so he rarely loses, but it would cost him less money if he just settled most cases.

Not to get too far afield. Generally the insurance company decided whether they are going to fight it or not...and they almost take the cheaper route. It is so screwed up..

Yes. Which when it gets there you have no choice except to settle. That is why he dropped the OB. It just wasn't worth it anymore. He could retire altogether, but he loves being a doctor. He takes missionary trips to other countries where he does all kinds of surgeries - not just women's health related. (he was a surgeon in the army during Vietnam) He loves it because he can practice medicine without fear of being sued and they can help so many people. It is unbelievable the amount of surgeries they do a day when they are there.
