Vick declares...
(NOTICE: This was posted before the latest 'Gunsmoke' incident.)
Well, he did it. He's going into the NFL draft.
As much as I would like to see a scumbag like him not even be drafted, I have the feeling that something else will happen.
Something else, like going in the first day of the draft.
The NFL seems to have a lot more patience and sympathy for players with legal troubles and unsportsmanlike conduct. To the NFL teams, it's a business. There is no 'reputation' to worry about.
Va Tech is consistantly being bashed for not kicking Vick off the team when his first infractions occured, and are also being bashed for not deciding on his booting in a quick manner. (I agree, the university did take too long to hand down their decision).
But if Vick was on a professional team, would that have happened? Would the media, the fans, and everyone else be calling for the head of Vick if he were the Dolphin's star quarterback? Would some even call for the dismissal of the head coach, as a lot of people are for Beamer?
I doubt it. NFL teams don't have to worry about the reputation they carry, because no one really cares what an NFL teams rep is. They're a business. They make money by winning games and having star performers on their team. Whether they're stars because of their good or bad qualities doesn't matter. TO is still going to have somewhere to go, probably the Buccs (so I hear). And look at the NBA... Charles Barkley, Iverson, etc etc etc. Professional sports seem to even LIKE the media attention they get from having the 'bad boys' of the league on their team.
So, I'm just afraid that Vick is going to go a lot higher than anyone is expecting him to. He's a good quarterback (so everyone believes), he's got the nation's attention, and a potential Michael vs. Marcus match-up would be the talk of the season.
Anyone disagree, or have any other comments on the topic?

I think Virginia Tech handled the matter the right way. Kicking a kid of the team isn't something that should be taken lightly. Had it not been for his history I doubt that this would be enough to get him kicked off. (suspended for a couple of games maybe) Va. Tech shouldn't be bashed for the actions of one guy. It drives me crazy when you hear of a school getting hammered because of something a few players did, when there are 75 guys on the team that follow the rules and actually become good citizens. Schools don't get enough credit for the good things and they get too much credit for the bad.
I think someone will take a chance on Vick, but I think he will probably have to wait until the second day. I don't think he will go before the 4th round. He is still very raw as a QB and there are questions as to how coachable he will be as well as his attitude. I think the extra year of school he is going to miss will cost him dearly.

Well, as much as I'd like to see him working at McDonald's, Marcus has a brother named Michael making millions and millions of $$$, I don't think he'd have a problem with lending him some?
He'll probably go in the 6th round, I still don't think that he's going to be any good in the NFL. I don't think he has any starting potential.

Vick screwed up again already: just posted on foxsports.com:
SUFFOLK, Va. (AP) - Former Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick, tossed from the team for his on- and off-the-field actions, was charged Monday with three counts of brandishing a firearm, police said.
Vick, 21, surrendered at the Suffolk magistrate's office Monday and was later released on $10,000 bond, The Virginian-Pilot reported in its online edition.
The parents of a 17-year-old boy said Vick pointed a weapon at their son and two others during an altercation on Sunday, police spokeswoman Lt. D.J. George said.
Vick's lawyer, Larry Woodward, confirmed the arrest, but declined further comment.
Virginia Tech on Friday kicked Vick off the football team, citing the cumulative effects of numerous legal transgressions and his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Jan. 2 Gator Bowl, where he was caught on tape stomping on the left calf of an opponent.
Vick is the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.

Someone will still take a chance on him, but he is probably a sixth round or an undrafted free agent after that.
