UL - high expectations

I am hoping the many rosy predictions for this UL team are mostly true. Tabbed as the 'breakout' team this year due to the most returning players in the ACC if not the whole country, http://www.thecardinalconnect.com/louis ... e-country/

Story originally in the CollegeSportsNews.com site. Also returning the most scoring points people in the ACC (this probably sounds better than it is). Since most points (not that we ran over people last year) were scored by just a few including running touchdowns by QB Lamar Jackson that it looks like we have an offensive steamroller back. However, that scoring potential may, or may not, be equal or better than other teams in talent.

Last year we started off 0-3 which lowered expectations so much that the winning streak at the end looked amazing and is being touted into this season.. I doubt we'll start 0-3 this year; but, I sort of doubt running the table either.

I think the ACC has as much parity as any conference. Ul has a very tough schedule. You should be all right with Charolotte. Syracuse is a real unknown. Baber will come out with some "stuff" not seen before. That is always scary. The downside is he does not know his players in the heat of battle. FSU is you have won the first two games will not hurt you much, certainly if you win, but even if you stay in the game. Clemson should be a good game. After that I think it is your hands. My prediction is you will be 2 and 1 after the first three games and have two more losses. Clemson and Boston College.

Because of the parity of the conference the ACC will get twisted, aka screwed, this year, again. The system favors conferences with little parity.

All the hype is just straw man talk.

UL vs. MARSHALL is an interesting "trap" game. Sandwiched between FSU and Clemson on UL's schedule; and, a home game at night at Marshall is a game I think might be difficult.

Marshall surprised UL a couple of years back here at Papa John's and this is going to be a tougher game than many think. Still, given how the 0-3 start last year affected the whole year I'm thinking the staff should be all over the players to keep them ready. If there aren't a lot of missing players by then we should be OK in my opinion.

Short time until Fall Camp around here. QB Lamar Jackson should make a giant leap into his sophomore season. His high school did not use a playbook and it was ad-lib all the time. He, and the coaches, admit that much of last year he had no idea how to read defenses or what progressions to make for passing. Instead he simply heaved it to any open man he could see or instinctively took off running when he should have stayed in the pocket. His running ability saved the day many a time.

Coach Petrino is glowingly talking of his progress in the off season. With an easy starting game to get those jitters past this may be a breakout season for him and the team. With more returning talent than any other team around I am sure we won't have a rocky 0-3 start like last year.

FINALLY! Fall camp is here. Less than a month to go for the first game, 4 open practices. Talk shows are finally addressing football. The coaches, for a change, are bubbling. What more could you want?

First game day is the answer.

Fall camp in the Northwest has started also. I am not sure how much football...seems more like media circus everywhere. There is as much jockeying for good press as there is the execution of plays. I read an article that was talking about Boise State and the writer mentions spring training and then talked about some post-spring training, it then went on and mentions a player that was in pre-fall camp and the fall camp. Seems to me it's football 24/365
