Rule Changes for This Season
”We’re already in a time where the on-field aspect of College Football is almost a distraction. It’s an era filled with handwringing about player empowerment, NCAA deregulation, the transfer portal and realignment all while the sport generally moves toward a professional model.” ~ Dennis Dodd

What is wrong with a tie game? Football changes all the rules of the game that got them to the overtime point. Does that make sense, play a different game to determine a winner. Bring back the tie. Everyone should kiss their Sister once in awhile.
Statistics are the Morphine of College Football

I've always favored the tie finish of a game.
It adds a data point which proves that both teams were equal on the field. There is nothing wrong with that.
Pretending you can somehow gauge which team is better by having them continue past regulation, is an arbitrary fools game. If two teams compete, both ranked in the top 10, they tie ... they should have the same ranking when the next poll comes out.
And when a game goes into 3rd & 4th overtime, what can you gleam from that, which you couldn't already, when the clock hit 0:00 to end quarter 4..?
That being said; if we are going to have Overtime, just leave it alone. Or, stop changing things to pretend like you care about the guys playing the game [that is just an excuse].
If you want to shorten the game length, then start Overtime at mid field. That would certainly reduce the number of overtime periods.

Putting the tie back into place would actually make coaches quit trying to play for a tie at the end of a close game.

.........eliminating ties is probably a cost issue. Just imagine for a moment, if there were ties, how many more CFP Members they would need, and how many more Bowl Selection Committee Members would be required, and how much more time it would take for all the pollsters, pontificaters and selection guys to perform their Super Secret Algorithms in formulation of their rankings and selections?????? And don’t forget the TV guys, they’re on a schedule and FOOTBALL PAYS.
OH MY!!!!!! The hours and hours and hours and the cost!!!!!!!!!

Exactly ...
Vying for a playoff or conference championship versus 1 or more team who are undefeated would set you back if you have a tie on your schedule.
