FYI, Possible NIL Options......
”We’re already in a time where the on-field aspect of College Football is almost a distraction. It’s an era filled with handwringing about player empowerment, NCAA deregulation, the transfer portal and realignment all while the sport generally moves toward a professional model.” ~ Dennis Dodd

I don't know what they will decide on, and I do think they should get something over and above the scholarship. Still, no matter what the California or any other state does, the member schools can keep the rules exactly like they are and the states can't do anything about it. Now they may have to operate without state money. They may have to defend against anti trust lawsuits. But no one is holding a gun to any of these guys heads to play college football.

I like the notion mentioned of sharing revenues generated from NIL sources among all team members. Guys like Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence can most assuredly throw a football, but also assuredly, they need the space and time to do so as well as someone to catch it.

The only problem with revenue sharing is that it takes money from the non revenue sports. When Jack Nicklaus was choosing whether to come to Ohio State for football or golf, it would have been a shame had he chose football.

I’m not sure that applies in Virginia.

Check and see what the NC Supreme Court has to say about the will of the minority when it comes to taking away rights.......

..........just wanted to establish that the law works both ways.

Well....not a law...just a scream of anguish from a legislator...one that echoes the many fans who hate the multi million dollar salaries being paid to coaches of scholar athletes...and think that they twist the whole system towards professionalism.
If a filed bill like this ever passes into law then it would become fodder for the courts.
And the court would have to decide just what constitutional right does one have to name your salary versus a state of federally set ceiling.
The courts would look at such things as pay caps that are set for current employees like the President, state and government employees, airplane pilots etc.. Professional teams in the NBA, NFL, and MLB.
We already have laws that don't allow employers to just pay whatever their employee is willing to take for the work...rules for overtime pay, minimum pay, rules about who must be covered as an "employee" versus independent contractor. Unions can regulate how much is paid for their journeymen...

Already...their are set limits for how much you can earn in sports salaries....rookie contracts are limited by a set ceiling...
NFL
Gone are the days when rookie contracts are heavily negotiated, limiting some players’ need to hire an agent and giving teams more flexibility in making their choices. The league now operates using a rookie wage scale for incoming NFL players, reducing what had become a series of outrageously expensive deals for players who didn’t always pan out.
NFL rookies, even those at the top of the draft, have no seat at the bargaining table and no voice in the CBA negotiating room. And with so many other issues for the NFLPA to try to address in upcoming bargaining, my sense is that the rookie compensation system may become even more regulated, perhaps with standardized contract language, in the next CBA.
Almost all baseball rookies get paid the same set mimimum salaries on their first contract...

LOL...I just looked at who is ram rodding the bill to limit coaches' salaries....Rep. Donna Shalala.
Yep...that Shalala...the former President of the University of Miami....
Of course....the "U" would have an interest in containing costs.
"I'm mortified at these salaries," said House Rep. Donna Shalala (D-FL), sponsor of the CACIA Act of 2019. "We have not been able to slow spending or expenditures."
