Another file 86 ...

UNLV fired football Head Coach Marcus Arroyo.

Not sure about this one.

Arroyo has been their Head Coach for 3 seasons, taking over during the Covid year.

UNLV's records under him,have been:

2020 -- O-6
2021 -- 2-10
2022 -- 5-7

This past weekend, UNLV snapped a 6 game losing streak to in state rival, Nevada.

Although being a Mountain West team; UNLV beat North Texas 58-27 earlier this season; and the Mean Green are #2 in CUSA, as they are set play Texas San Antonio for their Conference Championship this upcoming Friday.

Arroyo looked to have had the team going in the right direction.

This doesn't appear to be a misconduct thing, either ---

UNLV athletic director Erick Harper:

"We thank Marcus Arroyo for his unwavering efforts leading our student-athletes on and off the field for these three seasons. His program represented this institution in the community and classroom in a manner that is to be commended. However, with our increased expectations at UNLV we felt a change was in order."

This is what happens when the world of instant gratification takes over the mindset.

Now, you have to replace a guy, in time to scrape up what they can to salvage a recruiting class, while being faced with who might be ready to step away through the portal by this decision.

Maybe UNLV could use a guy like Gee to straighten things out.

By now, we all know Deion Sanders has taken the job at Colorado ...

He's already been on campus to have a meeting with the team. They recorded it, and you could tell Deion wrote his speech for the camera. Still, it was direct, and let them all know; "We're gonna find out if you really want to be here."

He also said he's going to finish what he started, and is going to coach his team at JSU for the playoffs.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Now, with his being hired as official at Colorado, it left Georgia Tech without a direct coach to pursue.

And, that is because Tulane's Head Coach turned Ga Tech down to stay in New Orleans.

So, Georgia Tech's now official Head Coach is Brent Key, who took over as interim Head Coach after Geoff Collins got fired.

Definitely not their first choice. Really not even their 2cnd or 3rd choice, either.

But they have have him now. Which makes me wonder whether they intend to keep him or not.

Hold the guy there, who's developed a similitude of a relationship with the current recruiting class. Then take your shot at your next favored target, next year.

Maybe ... or maybe he really is their guy, now.

UNLV was dumb to do this. That looks like a solid year over year improvement. This is the 'Saban effect' to me.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Watching and learning the ‘behind the scenes’ and what the ‘going’s on behind closed doors’ where during this awful and gut wrenching Mountaineer football season, and watching how Gee has acknowledged the environment surrounding College Football has and will continue to change, I can understand the “Why’s’ of his handling and addressing the issues surrounding Mountaineer Football.

I’m still convinced, no matter what room he’s standing, he’s the smartest SOB in the room.

Gee is a pretty bright guy. He likes to make it seem like he isn't, but don't believe it. When it is time to jump, he is the one directing how high.

Keep an eye out for:

Bryan Harsin {Auburn}

Geoff Collins {Georgia Tech}

Karl Dorrell {Colorado} [maybe just Hot Seat, this is year 3]

Ken Niumatalolo {Navy}

Neal Brown {West Virginia}

Pat Fitzgerald {Northwestern}

Scott Satterfield {Louisville}

Not exactly what I had in mind when I put his name on the list ...

Scott Satterfield is out at Louisville, not by being fired; Instead, being hired as the new Head Coach to replace Luke Fickell at Cincinnati.

After Head Coach, Bill Clark, stepped away back in August ...

UAB promoted then Offensive Coordinator, Bryant Vincent, to the Head Coaching position.

In late November, UAB announced they were on a Nation Wide coaching search. Followed up by the players criticizing the University for not keeping Vincent as the coach.

That "Nation Wide" search didn't last very long, as Trent Dilfer [yes, the former Baltimore Ravens' QB] was named the next Head Coach of the Blazers.

Dilfer is stepping up to the College Football ranks, as he's been the head coach of Lipscomb Academy [Private Christian School], in Nashville, Tennessee.

After their state championship win, Lipscomb has a 21-game win streak; the largest active streak in the state.

After going 37-32 in six seasons as the Head Coach ...

Tim Lester was fired by Western Michigan.

With all of the Dominoes falling, the best mentioned candidate right now, looks like; Lance Taylor [Louisville's OC]

Seeing Scott Satterfield leave the Cardinals for the Cincinnati job, coaching staff turnover is shuffling around Louisville. And Lance Taylor maybe looking to step up, not over.

Which leads me into this one ...

Jeff Brohm leaves the Purdue Head Coaching job, to take the same position at Louisville, to replace Satterfield.

Let's face it; Brohm was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the QB coach under Petrino, during Booby's first stint there.

This was really a no brainer for UL.

UNLV found their replacement for the coach they maybe should not have fired ...

Arkansas's Defensive Coordinator, Barry Odom takes over, after Arroyo's departure.

His big claim to fame was being 25-25 in the 4 years he served, as head coach at Missouri.

Again ... Kay.

Here's one I'm sure Spence has an earful of ...

Tulsa hires Ohio State Offensive Coordinator Kevin Wilson as their new Head Coach.

So long as he finds a solid DC, he should do better than his days leading the Hoosiers.

At least, this time as the HC, he wont be facing Big 10 opponents. Though, the AAC isn't the softest of the Go5 conferences.

Here's one that is funny, and a bit surprising ...

Jamey Chadwell, Head Coach of Coastal Carolina, turned down Georgia Tech and accepted the HC position at Liberty, taking over for the opening left by Hugh Freeze.

Honestly, I thought this guy would hold out for a Power5 job. I guess all the one's that likely appealed to him, have already been filled, or are yet to open.

Recovering from Jamey Chadwell's exit ...

Coastal Carolina hires N.C. State's OC, Tim Beck, as the next Head Coach.

He's never held the position before. So, I guess we'll see.

Wanting in on all of this Offensive Action, and HC Trend ...

USF hires Tennessee's Offensive Coordinator, Alex Golesh, as their new Head Coach.

Not a terrible buy-in. He was also integral at Iowa State, in helping Matt Campbell put the Cyclones on the map.

Although he's never had the Head Coaching job before; really, what do they have to lose at this point? They can't get much worse.

Not wasting any time in getting to their man ...

FAU finds their replacement for Taggart, by hiring ex-Texas Head Coach, Tom Herman.

This could be a great hire for them. The downside, though, is Herman's pipeline was always Texas.

He was a High School coach in Texas. He coached Houston up to being a New Year's contender. And then eventually landed the Longhorns' job.
'
However, if he's going to be successful coaching in, Boca Raton; Herman's going to have to recruit Florida.
