Army - Navy

What a Game ...

This is what College Football and Tradition are all about.

Since the institution of the Overtime Rule for Div-1A College Football in 1996, there has not been a single post regulation continued contest in the Series History.

Today, that changed, as Amy / Navy took us to 2 OT's, which started out very exciting.

Although the offenses had did little to impress in regulation. In the 1rst Overtime, the 1rst Play from Scrimmage, for both teams, went for a Touchdown.

Army, scoring on a Halfback Draw, running right up the middle, and all the way to the end zone.

Navy, holding back until Overtime, QB Arline threw his only pass of the game for a 25 yard TD.

2cnd Overtime, Navy drives the ball on the ground. Having great success, rushing for to Big back to back 1rst Downs.

1rst and goal, the get the ball to the 1 yard line.
2cnd and goal, Army gets penetration, tackles for a 2 yard loss.
3rd and goal, Ball Carrier is met at the goal line, and fumbles.
Army recovers, turnover on downs.

To start their drive, Army runs the ball efficiently, protecting from dropping it, while edging into Field Goal range.

Army Kicker, Quinn Maretzki, who came in clutch late in the 4th quarter to tie the game, Kicks the Game Winning FG, for a 20-17 Black Knights Victory.

Can't think of a better way to end the Regular Season.

Yep…… it had everything College Football has to offer. To me, that game was the Gold Standard all of College Football should
be striving to become.

I always watch this game. It is rarely a snoozer. This game was fantastic. I thought Navy was right back in it and then the fumble. A fumble caused by extra effort. You can hardly fault a player for trying to hard. It was one of the best games of the year.
