Pundit Talking Points Go Reverse In Championship ... so far

What did we hear coming into tonight's game ..?

If Washington would win, they would have to play fast, and over the top.

For Michigan to win, they'd need to pace the game out, fewer possessions is their friend.

Michigan, scores a Touchdown within the first 5 minutes.

Washington hold the ball for about 11 minutes, coming away with just a field goal.

Michigan responds with a TD in under 2 minutes.

Washington held to a punt.

Michigan now slows the game down, some; but still walks away with a FG of their own.

Score 17-3, Wolverines, early in the 2cnd quarter.

Well, Washington is playing Michigan's game, and they get the ball to start the second half.

Maybe it's the Huskies who need to keep Michigan's offense on the sideline to keep them off rhythm.

Well, I feel good for Eric. It has been a long time coming. I can’t say the same about that team.
Congrats Eric.

A truly great win for the Wolverines ...

For Washington, if nothing else, they have now seen it first hand where they need to be, personnel wise, going forward into the Big 10.

Washington didn't really have a chance in this one.

They only scored 3 points in the second half, and their only Touchdown drive came off of an interception. Even then, they had to go for it on 4th down to score.

The Huskies didn't help their own case much, drawing out their drives as long as they had. You can do that with the lead. But when you're down so many points, they simply backed themselves into a spot where they had no choice but to throw it every down.

Then an interception that is returned to the 7 yard line by Ole Blue.

Three plays later, TD and you're down by 21 with 3:31 left in the game.

Washington did move the ball, at times. They just couldn't get anything productive when it mattered most. When these teams started trading punts, it felt like it was already over.

Michigan played old school football. They are not the most talented team in the B1G, not even close. They are great on both lines and they run the ball. That has always been a blueprint to win at football.

The CFP Committee most certainly has demonstrated that a ‘selection committee’ is not the way to seed a playoff……… IMHO there were better teams available to seed the bracket than either Texas or Washington. This appeared, and in my mind played out, that these ‘selections’ have a heavily weighted with a ‘made for a National TV audience factor’ built into the decision making process. In any event, for me it would have been Georgia and Ohio State along with Michigan and Alabama.

I’m in favor of expanding the playoff, and would prefer that seedlings and participation criteria be predetermined before the regular season begins.

Oh, I agree that having a committee or computers, for that matter, isn't the way to do it. I think they let in conference champs in automatically, that guarantees one team from every conference, then let the committee do what every to finish them out. My 4 at the end of the season would have been Michigan, Washington, Florida State, and either Alabama or Georgia. The first 3 based on their undefeated seasons and the last one based on recent history strength. Ohio State you maybe consider too, although I think you give the nod to Alabama or Georgia based on them being in a virtual tie with Ohio State and Texas and being a stronger conference.
