Penn State / ND

Postby Cane from the Bend » Thu Jan 09, 2025 9:49 pm

This thing is a chess match ...

I think I understand what Freeman was doing. They were only down by 3, so they went into the Ball Control mode, thinking they had the mismatches up front to drain the clock and take the lead by finishing their drive in the end zone.

Penn St got penetration, and hit Leonard in the back field.

Now, Franklin is sapping up the time, and playing the Irish's game against them.

If ND holds them to a FG here, it won't be too bad.

The Nittany Lions getting across the goal will be tough, holding a 10 point lead.

Ought to make the Second half interesting.

That FG was huge for ND ...

They'll get the ball to start the 2cnd half. Which puts them in a place to tie things up on their first possession after the break.

Both teams played it close to the vest in that half……. I think it’s going to be very important for the Irish to score first in the second half, and then we’ll see which coach blinks.

Seems like Franklin is content in leaving a running lane for Leonard on the outside, daring him to take it ...

It just bit him.

I think Penn St had the ability to move the ball like that on their last drive. But Franklin tried to play time control while the score was tied.

Put `em into a must have, and they seem to match up well with this Irish team.

Now let's see if Freeman pushes fast, or drains the clock, meticulously maneuvering into a winning drive.

That was a foolish lacksidasical pass by Allar ...

He's lucky he got a reprieve.

PSU had better start playing time, rather than trying to play these guys bold and straight up.

This has been an entertaining game. Not a very good officiated game. Some questionable calls and some obvious no calls. Not really favoring one team over the other, just a poorly called game. Except for the hands to the face call by Notre Dame just now. That was a good call.

I will say Franklin still looks like he wants to lose it. Marcus Freeman has his team over achieving because Penn State was pushing his defense around in the first half.

Franklin and his game management is his biggest issue. He has really good players most years.

It is no secret I am not a big ND guy but I am happy that Marcus Freeman has proven his chops.

Why would Franklin bring Drew Aller out to face the press here. The only thing i can think of is to take the heat off him. No way in the world I would do that.

Good game and fun to watch…….. Penn State couldn’t get them off the field on 3rd downs….. and turnovers are the poison pill on the Football Field.

I’m going to bed…….. and mention in my Prayers that Ohio State beats the hell outa’ Texas tomorrow night.

I agree. Notre Dame made amazing adjustments at half time because they got absolutely pushed around most of the first half.
