Sloppy kick

Postby Derek » Mon Jan 02, 2006 3:48 pm

Did anyone see the game winning FG in the Cotton bowl??
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

A wounded duck if there ever was one.

It is only fitting that Alabama win it like that. They have played ugly all season and that is a fitting conclusion to their season. They remind me so much of the 2002 Ohio State team it isn't funny. Who said defensive football games aren't interesting. That was the best game so far this year.

Agreed. :D

Alabama has an all world defense. Give Shula some time to put an offense together and the Tide fans should be a very happy bunch.

Not to worry, rolltide.

The sanctions and scholarship reductions have hurt Alabama's efforts. That's behind them now. I think the program at Alabama was really smart for how they handled a difficult situation. Seems to me they had enough sense to realize that with the scholarship reductions they could not recruit enough players for the offense, defense, and special teams .... so they concentrated on the phase of the game that would give them the best chance of staying competitive and winning.

That's some DEFENSE they've got .... don't you think?

Yup, I was rooting for Tech, and breathed a sigh of relief when he kicked it, I had to watch the replay before I believed it went through. Shame on Tech for not blocking such a low kick. I have a lot of respect for Cody Hodges going in there barely being able to walk and throwing the game tying touchdown. That's a tough dude.

That was probably the ugliest kick I've ever seen decide a game, and I've seen quite a few.
But it counts teh same as a pretty one.

I've seen missed field goals that looked like better kicks, boy was it sick to watch. At first I had thought he missed it, but sure enough, the Red Raider team I was backing all season long didn't come out with a good enough preformance. I expect them to come back next season and put up similar results, maybe 3 losses at the most. They do play Oklahoma and Texas (who is going to win the NC in 2006) but they do go on the road to play what I think is going to be a very, very good Iowa State team. Watch out for the Red Raiders in, say, 2 years or so. Then they'll be in the hunt for the national title, I really mean that!

Actually I was mostly happy with how TTU played against Alabama, but they needed to win, probably to get any respect, that's how it goes.
Alabama, really probably wasn't as good as everyone made them out to be, but they nearly beat LSU which would have in all likelihood put them in the SEC title game. It's possible I suppose, the entire SEC was over-rated, the evidence (other than LSU) seems to support that view.

Well, speaking of the "overrated" SEC, this should spark the debate over what is the best conference. It isn't the Big 12, even though they have an impressive bowl record. Upsets happen, and I don't think you can base which conference is the best on the conference's bowl record.

It's funny, his playsheet, you know the ones coaches hold to cover their lips and such, his looks like a folded napkin. It's amazing, I'd like to find out his secret! I think it is fairly obvious that Tech doesn't exactly set the world on fire offensively against good defenses, but the thing people forget is the Raider defense. If you looked at the recruiting classes, I'd have to say Tech has had very good ones. They are going after defensive players, and I think they had a top 30 defense, which is much better than the defense Kliff Kingsbury had to play with.

I'm not taking anything away from TTU.
But I"m not convinced that they are any better (if at all) than TCU and next year we'll find out for sure.
