First Place Votes

Postby Brian Roastbeef » Fri Oct 15, 2010 4:50 pm

Of minor interest, but after seeing #1 go down last week, and with all of the talk of what is to be expected in the upcoming BCS polls, I just figured I'd dig into our own polling threads to see what chaos has been left behind.

In the poll for the week of October 5, unsurprisingly Alabama was the near-unanimous favorite.
Alabama was #1 on our overall poll
9 Groups had Alabama the sole #1, the tenth had Alabama and Oregon tied at #1.
11 of 13 individuals who voted that week had Alabama #1.
2 of 13 had Oregon as #1

This week's poll:
Oregon is overall #1
5 Groups give Oregon a 1st place vote (1 tied)
3 Groups give Ohio State their 1st place vote
2 Groups give Boise State their 1st place vote (1 tied)
1 Group gives Oklahoma a first place vote
1 Group gives TCU a tie for the first place vote (alongside Oregon and Boise St.)

First place votes among the 13 individuals who participated this past week:
Oregon has 6
Ohio State 3
Oklahoma 2
Boise St. 1
LSU 1

If you ask me, it is great. I love when there is no clear favorite. Oregon seems to be seen as the strongest among us as a whole (as reflected in the overall poll). Still, and no offense to any Alabama or Oregon fans, you gotta enjoy a season when at least half of a dozen teams can make a fair claim on the top spot.

When was it 07 or 08 when all the top teams (#2 I think) kept getting knocked off?

I am wondering if this carousel is going to start up this year. If it does it will get crazy, their will be a whole lot of good-looking 1 and even 2 loss teams. (And for me the difference between 2 losses against 1 loss, is not as big as 1 loss against none.)

All of we Big East backers still pine for that West Virginia-Missouri championship game that nearly was... :(

Someone on a yahoo or Sports Ill blog showed with everyone playing each oyher in the next 3/4 weeks there won't be many unbeatens left. It will take care of most of the problem. No matter what the final fallout, without a true 8 or 16 team playoff there will be grumbling. Ya know what. Just win all of your games and you WILL be considered to be in the BCS final. Yes, not guaranteed you'll make the game but, win out and you WILL be considered.
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

I went through the undefeated teams a week or so ago on here somewhere. I think there were 12 at the time, and only 7 (I think) were mathematically possible with teams playing each other. And I suspect 2 or 3. Boise St., and either Nebraska or Ohio St. will. But I wasn't considering the Big 12 Championship. I think our Boise guys should send Razorhawk some nice gifts (that I am sure he would reroute) because Iowa might just hold the keys to the bus for Boise State.

I never thought for a minute Missouri had a chance to beat Oklahoma in that title game. But yeah, I was expecting Ohio State / West Virginia

That was 2007. That was when USF, Cal, and Boston College were each ranked #2 at some point in the season.

Well, Ohio St. was #1 in the AP/Coaches polls, but #2 in ours. Since our #1, Oregon didn't play, I guess we can say that technically another #1 went down, and if Oregon had played, well, who's to say.

That being said, I do like the diversity in our poll, and will be interested to see who the new #1 is since Oregon did not play. Will that affect anyone. It did for me, but I didn't have Oregon #1 last week, but I do now. That's what happens when a team plays an FCS opponent in the middle of the season (LSU).
I dont care who wins as long as Notre Dame loses!

I think for the most part the guys who vote in this poll have a pretty good handle on the pulse of college football.
