I don't think head hunting should be allowed. I also don't think that incidental contact or a defensive player going into a ball carrier and having that guy lower his shoulder - causiing a helmet hit - should be penalized. It seems to me like every rule is geared to make things harder for defensive players. I don't think trying to hurt someone should ever be legal, but I also believe that as long as you keep your head up you should be able to tackle someone.

Sometimes a guy will just hit heads because of the split second decision. Hard to read the mind on some and some are obvious. Probably best to still enforce a new rule. Too many guys are getting wacked.
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

Hey football is a contact sport. I don't like the deliberate attacks with the helmet, but many calls will go against a fair tackle.
If they are afraid of getting wacked, they should play golf.

I agree Razor. There are rules to protect players. They just need to be enforced correctly. No need to take the teeth of of playing defense.

Yes to all of the above...however....there needs to be a quick determination of why all of these helmets are coming off.

I read that they are coming off because of a safety feature that is supposed to keep a guy's head twisting with the helmet. I agree though, a helmet is going to fly off and a player is going to take a knee to the head or something like that and it is going to be bad. I was for getting rid of the horse collar, but they are making it so defenses can't do anything. There is only do much you can do for safety. You should do what you can, but it isn't like football is a bloodsport.

I was just talking about this at a high school football game last Friday. Helmets were all over the place all game long. On one occasion a kid was hit in the chest and his helmet popped off straight into the air (his helmet was not even hit). Very strange indeed.

I am a big supporter of the horsecollar rule....but...it has to be a horsecollar tackle..not just because a hand is on the back of a jersey....like facemasking...a player needs to grab hold...not just brush...Officials need to watch the offenses they call and not just assume what happened based on results.
