Boise will Jump TCU...TCU's lack of style points

Postby billybud » Sun Nov 14, 2010 4:53 pm

The BCS will probably jump Boise over TCU. The Coaches Poll and AP have and we await the Harris and computers.

The five point win against SDSU hurt TCU.

Which it should if you don't have the schedule strength. If you struggle you drop. Auburn can get away with it, based on history, TCU or Boise State can't.

Yes, understood...and remaining schedule counts too. TCU sits out a week and finishes with a very weak opponent. BSU still has top of the conference games left to finish the season. Even if the BCS keeps TCU ahead in today's release then BSU can still overtake them if they perform well in the remaining three games.
Win or Lose - IT'S HOW YOU HYPE THE OUTCOME! BCS logic: When teams in the AQ conferences lose, it shows how tough those conferences are; when teams in non-AQ conferences lose, it is weakness.

Not to mention TCU's supposed outstanding win over an extremely propagated ranked Utah team, looks even less impressive now that notre dame beat the Utes 28-3; notre dame was 4-5 going into that game, coming off of a loss to "Tulsa" ...

I think that is bigger. It is for me, and yet I stand by my earlier statement, and think TCU tore Utah's heart out. I have seen them play and thought TCU would bust them pretty hard. But no way had Utah looked so bad as to hint at losing to Notre Dame in the manner they did. BUt what happens on the field doesn't stay on the field...it makes it to the polls...as it should.

The problem, as I see it, is some teams have been having matches with good teams, week after week....while Boise's "top of the conference" games are with Nevada, Fresno State, and Utah State.

And none of these teams would be favored over even six loss Ole Miss in the SEC...well, Ole Miss did beat Fresno State 55-38. That's a problem for me if I'm a voter. A one loss LSU, Auburn, Stanford, Oregon etc (all top 25 SOS)....has played some teams whilst Boise was cruising through the weak schedule.

The schedule strength of Boise continues it's slide to a now #82....

I would rank Boise above Ohio State and Wisconsin since Boise's schedule strength to date is similar to theirs.

But...if Boise can maintain "style points", they will be #2 in the BCS if Oregon or Auburn falls.

Opponents' Records:
Oregon: 39-60
Wisconsin: 43-57
Ohio State: 49-52 Actually the best of those three.

Now, these numbers could increase or decrease in such cases as most are saying, "There is plenty of football left to be played".
It may suggest that the basis for ranking the strength of schedules may be flawed.

Hard to just look at win loss records of opponents (without a value on the win/loss)....for instance, Oregon's opponent Tennessee with their losses to Oregon, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and LSU....(with LSU, Alabama, Oregon, and South Carolina in the Top 25 BCS).

Those losses are completely different than Ball State's losses to Kent, Toledo, Liberty, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Purdue. Yet they are both six losses.

I can see trying to put value on a win. Putting a value on a loss is much more complicated. It requires some leaps.

Spence....what is the difference in the methodology of determining the value of a win vs a loss? Both require that the opponent be assigned a value.

Approximately 40,000,000 people attended college football last year. How many give a tinker's darn about all of this? (Significant...perhaps..they are the ones paying for the tickets.))

A lot more than you would think...

For example, Nole fans everywhere have been wondering this morning about ratings....I see some of it on the boards and that is the tip of the iceberg.

FSU and Miami have the same record and FSU destroyed Miami on their home field...yet Miami is ranked #21 and #24 while FSU isn't ranked.

I think most pollsters just start plugging in teams ater they finish the top 10 based on their recent perception of the teams. What have you done for me lately mentality and Miami is 2 and 1 in the last 3 weeks while FSU is 1 and 3 in the last 3 weeks. Not saying it is right or wrong but I know when I am filling out the top 25 each week, once I get to the 12 to 25 slots it is hard to differentiate between several 2 and 3 loss teams.
