SEC Expansion
The latest reports today say Texas A&M has informed the Big 12 they are leaving.
I also just read that Dan Patrick said on his radio show this morning that he was told Texas A&M will join the SEC West and Virginia Tech will join the SEC East. I did not hear it myself so I can not verify that he said this today. I would think he might have contacts close to the situation.
This should get interesting.

Re: SEC Expansion
Hmm seems they would just go ahead and go to 16 and get it over with so they don't need to do this again once the Big 10 and Pac 12 do it because I don't see them stopping at 14 now that they just went to 12.

That would make since. Other teams that have been mentioned other than A&M and Virginia Tech are: Clemson, Florida State, and Missouri.

That will be good. Then they can continue to go 7-6 in a "better" conference.

Re: SEC Expansion
I really don't think that VT will be leaving the ACC for the SEC. They are already on record as saying that if asked, they would politely decline.

The ACC will not, I think, lose a team to the SEC. FSU, Clemson, and GT would have opposition from some voters...
I could see WVU being added from the BE...or Mizzou.

Re: SEC Expansion
Yep, and also this was mentioned in the article from NBC:
Similarly, Mizzou chancellor Brady Deaton has also denied receiving a letter from A&M, but added that if A&M left the Big 12 is “poised to move aggressively to assure a strong Big 12.“
Which correlates with a previous statement in an earlier article that emphasized if A&M were to leave the conference, "the Big Twelve would move aggressively forward, presumably adding 3 teams".
Other reports I have, suggest if A&M were to leave; the Big XII may pursue Houston as a replacement - and SMU has been if constant communication with Dan Beebe, showing interest in joining the Big 12.
"SMU Athletic director Steve Orsini said he's had informal talks with Big 12 officials for some time to inform them of the school's improvements and growth."
I note that; if the Missouri Chancellor is stating the conference will move aggressively to ensure a strong Big XII, that it would seem as though Missouri is not interested in moving to the SEC.

Oap, now this is interesting:
Texas A&M Denies Sending Letter
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M said Tuesday it has not sent a letter of withdrawal to the Big 12 Conference.
The brief statement by school spokesman Jason Cook comes a day after The New York Times said in a story posted on its Web site Monday night that university president R. Bowen Loftin sent a letter to Missouri chancellor and Big 12 board chairman Brady Deaton to inform the league it was leaving. The report cited two unidentified college officials with direct knowledge of the decision.
Cook declined to comment further on the newspaper report.

Re: SEC Expansion
I think VTech would listen. I don't see them wanting to be on the outside looking in if Miami or Florida State bolted the ACC.

Except, neither Miami or Florida State are entertaining the notion.
Tech may listen; though, movement is another thing. I suppose it would all depend primarily on what the offer actually is.

Re: SEC Expansion
I don't see Tech moving. The ACC is their house. Who's House? 4 Conference titles in 7 years. A 73-21(.777) record since joining the ACC. 49-11(.817) in conference play. 5 teams have yet to win a game against them since they joined(Duke 0-7, Maryland 0-4, UVA 0-7, Wake 0-3, Clemson 0-2). Boston College has the most wins at 3-5(Matt Ryan 2-2). The only team to really show any answer for the Hokies has been Florida St. who has held pat at 2-2(1-1 Conf Play, 1-1 Conf Champ).
The Seminoles have won 13 of the last 15 contests dating back to 1976 including the 1999 National Title, and the 2005 ACC Championship. Tech took a little back last year by claiming their fourth ACC title at the Seminoles expense but it hardly repays the National Title, or the 2005 ACC championship game where they were 7-4 coming into the game against a 10-1 Tech team. It still eases the pain when I think we have 4 Conf Titles in 7 years and have taken over a conference that was once pimped by FSU.

Re: SEC Expansion
Va Tech would be a good addition to the SEC, but I agree and don't see that happening. Conference titles would not come that easily in the SEC. Same for Florida St, even though the Noles would not add a TV market, whereas the Hokies would increase the TV views, which translates into additional money for the conference.Vileborg wrote:I don't see Tech moving. If the SEC does go to 16, my wish list would be Texas A&M, Missouri added to the West and Va Tech and (Clemson/W Virginia/Florida St)
