Two Former Tallahassee Lincoln Boys...win as starting QB

Postby billybud » Sun Sep 04, 2011 10:26 am

Two of our former local Tallahassee Lincoln quarterbacks won their opening game.

Bauserman for Ohio State..he was my son's quarterback in HS and has to be the oldest QB in IA (like the QB at Boise, Joe seems like he has been at OSU for a decade). And BJ Daniels of USF, another Lincoln kid, beat the Domers.

My son was rooting for Bauserman to be the starter ansd was happy that he had a good game.

Bauserman is 25 or 26. He committed to Ohio State out of high school, but decided to try pro baseball. Although he has played, yesterday was his first start in eight years. He did well, although all that is tempered by Ohio State playing Akron who isn't very good right now. I think Baxton Miller - the true freshman - also showed great poise. We really need to see how both play with a little duress. Right now Ohio State needs the baby steps to find out which of this new stable of pups will bite.

Toledo can be dangerous. If only for the fact that I think Ohio State will treat them like Akron. It only takes the big dog to sleepwalk through the first quarter and then start pressing when they aren't blowing the opponent out to snowball into an upset possibility. For the record, OSU will win, but I think it'll be a tight one 8)

I'll eat crow if it's 30-7 at halftime

I don't think Ohio State will treat them like Akron. Everyone I heard expects Toledo to be lots better than Akron. I think Fickell's personallity will keep them from sleep walking on Toledo. He won't build them up more than they should be built up ala coach T, he will challenge them to show who they are no matter who the opponent happens to be. That is what I have always liked about him. That said, though, going into the game with so many young kids playing sets Ohio State up for a fall if they make big mistakes. I think the big questions that need answered is, can the offensive line give Bauserman enough time to work? Or if he can't, is Braxton Miller as advanced a player as he showed yesterday. Also Ohio State's special teams, especially kick coverage, has a long way to go to be functional this year.

As I told my dad...OSU better be on the look out for Toledo. I know they played an FCS school yesterday, but New Hampshire is one of the better programs and Toledo put it on them pretty good, Toledo was up 27-0 before UNH got on the board. If OSU messes around they will find themselves in a real game.

I don't think Ohio State will mess around, but we really don't know anything about Ohio State yet. Akron couldn't really do anything yesterday. They have lots of personel issues. There program is just in shambles right now and you can't take anything from the game about how good/bad Ohio State can be. This week's game with Toledo will be the game that shows us the flaws in Ohio State's game.

Right you can't learn much by facing Akron. They along with Eastern Michigan, New Mexico State, North Texas, and Idaho are one of the worst teams in the nation (and I would probably go so far as to say they are the worst team in the nation).

You can't take much if anything positive, but the negatives can be glaring. One positive I can take is that Braxton Miller can throw bb's downfield in a game situation. If he can muster the same poise under duress, he will be a special player. We will find out about the lines, backs, and receivers in the coming weeks and the season hinges on how we play back to back against the Huskers and Whisky.

This is shocking!

Not shocking to Buckeye fans. I think most thought we would struggle.
Ohio State did their very best to lose this game. It is going to be a long hard fall.
