Sparty vs Buckeyes

Postby strawman » Sat Oct 01, 2011 6:02 pm

Wow what an ugly game, this is the type of plodding punt laden game that the SEC folks like to make fun of about Big 10 football. OSU looks horrible. Who would have thought a few free tattoos could destroy a team.

They are missing 5 starters on offense. It makes it tough.

I had to turn from that game game before the 1st quarter ended. I fell asleep at the half on the Ark game and missed some good football. I couldn't risk missing the rest of the day!

Ohio State will be lucky to go to a bowl this year.

Now, now, Spence. They still have two sure-fire wins against Purdue and Indiana. If they take one from Michigan, Penn State, or Illinois, then they're in. But 6-6 or 7-5 (best-case scenario) seems really likely at this point.

We do go to full strength next week so it should get better. Posey can get open so that will give Miller some options and having Boom and Mike Adams should improve plays from the line od scrimmage, but Miller is going to struggle all year with the offense. The defense is improving every week so that will help, but it isn't going to be a good year. I think 7-5 is wishful thinking.

Well from what I have seen (not enough) I think MSU is better than Penn State. I can't see the Buckeyes losing to them. Illinois I am not sure of. I don't see them beating the Wolverines...but that is a ways off!

Michigan is the last game. Hopefully Miller will advance enough by then. Ohio State's defense should be good by the end of the season. Illinois isn't very good either, problem being though, neither is Ohio State. Miller knows about 12 plays. That isn't going to cut it.

Knowledge and experience take time...that defense will buy them some. Due to flipping around I haven't seen OSU's special teams, how are they doing? (They need a win in conference to hang their hat on...the young guys especially.) Just checked the schedule, that makes the Illinois game huge! I can't see OSU beating Nebraska or Whisky even with some breaks and good improvement. So opening conference at 0-4 could be disastrous in the media and the kids' confidence!

But let me get on the books now. Everyone better enjoy a sub-par year for the Buckeyes. Great schools turn painful years like this into pay dirt in a year or 2!

Special teams are pretty good, but the best punt returner was out today, I don't know when he will be back. Wisconsin is the class of the B10 this year. I think at full strength we may give Nebraska a game. Maybe not, we will find out next week. Ohio State has no chance at beating Wisky this year. They will over power our defense and the offensive production is...........well........offensive.

I knew Ohio State would lose today. I never pick against them so a picked them in the pickem game, but I knew they would lose. I actually expected it to be much worse than it was ---- which doesn't say much about MSU. I think Ohio State and the points will be a good bet next week. I don't think I would pick them to win, though, if I weren't a fan.

The rest of the season you will see the all out bull rush on Ohio State until Miller can learn to take advantage and make them respect his ability to throw.

Can they beat Nebraska w/ Miller at the helm? I wonder how he will be mentally in the short term. He played 3 quarters and the Buckeyes never mounted a scoring drive. Bauserman comes in and they have the 2 longest drives of the game including a TD. Then the coaches comments on opening the QB competition up, though he later said Miller was his guy. I don't know but most young guys would not respond really well.

Bauserman was sacked 5 times in the quarter he played. Was that due to Sparty pinning their ears back knowing the Buckeyes would have to throw the ball? Or was it Bauserman's mobility and holding the ball?

I doubt they win, but the line in this game will favor Nebraska big.and I think Ohio State will give them a game with all of the starters back. You are right that Miller doesn't have the chops -- yet--to beat them. Pepino will do the same thing Dino did to Miller--blitz him until he beats it.

Having 5 starters out is hard to overcome. Ark is minus five starters on defense and up until yesterday two starters on offense. Things will improve for Ohio State in the coming weeks. The question is will it be enough?
