VY as NFL QB

Postby bmcd » Thu Jan 05, 2006 6:40 pm

I just don't understand the talk i'm hearing about VY's throwing motion and not being an NFL QB. What's wrong with the motion? He's got a quick release, it's low and tough to intercept, it's a short throwing motion, and what's wrong with the sidearm? I think the dude's better than Vick in '99, and will be better after 5 years in the pros than Vick is. Think about it...when it comes down to it, Vick basically runs around crazily and just chucks the ball-usually incomplete. Vick may have one of the highest yards per pass in the NFL, but yet he has one of the lowest completion percentages. Young remains much more composed and doesn't scramble around like a chicken with its head cut off. He runs a lot, but it's fluid, and he can pick up blocks because of his running style. He's also more of a pocket passer than Vick. Most of his passes last night came from between the tackles, not outside. He also has more strength to stay and make a completion when two or even three guys are at his legs trying to take him up. Another thing that was discusses this afternoon about VY on the Matt Perault show was how SC didn't force him to throw deep. Well my thinking is if you don't have to throw deep, why worry about it? VY has a strong enough arm to go deep, but he didn't need it last night. And think about it, he was going up against an NFL style defense with Pete Carroll. Not necessarily NFL speed and talent, but the style Carroll uses with SC's defense is that that he used in the NFL. Don't know if he's faster or stronger than Vick right now, but he will be. So I think his critics need to give him a chance. After all, nobody has ever seen anything quite like VY.

Edit:Young is an exceptional athlete. The NFL will find a way to use him.

I've been following VY since high school, and his learning curve is absolutely outstanding. He's going to do all the things in the NFL that people have said Reggie Bush is going to do. If he comes back next year, he's going to be head and shoulders better than any college QB in the history of the game. His stats will be about the same because he'll only play the second half 3 or 4 games.

Vince Young is going to be freakin' awesome. If his throwing ability works so well in college (he is the highest rated passer), why can't it work in the NFL :?:

He does that "flick of the wrist" thing, and then it flies. He is a much better passer than Vick, Vick should be lined up as a wide reciever. Young is nowhere near as quick as Michael Vick is, but he is so strong and so hard to tackle.

Well, if you'll recall, Michael Vick had the highest passer rating in the history of college football for a sophomore. He completed nealry 70% of his passes in college. It's a bit different in the NFL. Vick has also had to deal with a horrible offensive line for five years now.

Youngs problem is he doesn't go down field very well. Vick can throw the ball he just needs to learn to be a QB first, runner second. Vick will never win a super bowl until he excepts that.

Young has a way to go to be an NFL qb. It's not as easy to push people around in the NFL. He needs to work on being a QB. He should stay in school.

I think he is going to be a brilliant quarterback in the NFL, I think he'll be able to throw it much better than Vick does now.

Both these guys are tremendous athletes and will have great NFL careers provided:

1. they have a good team around them (includes coaches & owners)
2. they play in a system that suits their skills
3. and of course, stay injury free and don't let the demons that surround pro sports get too them

well, it's official, he's going to the pro's next year. I think this year he definitely turned into a pass first quarterback, trust me, it killed me how many times he didn't just tuck the ball and run. I am convinced that we haven't seen the best of him yet. I am conVINCEd that he will continue to get better, and I will definitely root for whatever team he goes to.

You're right, he was definitely a class act, I loved watching 'em this year, it would've made me cringe if he acted like Marcus Vick.
