Derek Character might return??

Derek Character is by all reports a youngster who has hardly ever been told no. At UL he was constantly in the hot water for weight, rules violations, low grades, and plain laziness.

Coach Petrino told him quite frankly to go elsewhere to play for 2008-9 season.

Apparently this (being told NO) has gained his attention and reportedly he is in summer school trying to improve his grades . Will Petino take him back (soap opera continues). Supposedly (no conformation by the coach) Petino has laid down a real set of rules that would mean Charater would have zero tolerance and would NOT have a scholarship next year; but, maybe get one back the year after.

Does this mean he could be a walk-on this coming year, or does he have to skip a year. Not totally clear at the moment.

However, numerous times just after making promises to "straighten up and fly right", Character would break the promise the same day by missing curfew or whatever . It doesn't look good (to me) for his return.

And, with hopefully superstar Samardo Samuels coming in nearly ready to go, I would say this lessens Character's chances even more.

Well, the Derek Character saga at UL is over. He has transferred to Southern Mississippi and will have to sit out a year. A mild prediction here: He will get in the same hot water there even before the sit out year is over. And, if he lasts that year, I think he will play for them; but, it will be the same story again a SM.

Good luck to him; and, I'm glad to be rid of the distractions he brought.

Well, a number of additional facts have come to light about Character and his stay at U of L. Mostly about a total wacko girlfriend that was behind many of his problems.

She tried to break into his dorm one night twice by smashing windows ; where are those campus police when ya need 'em. And it goes on and on with her.

Around here we are taking up a collection to send her to Southern Miss to be with him. LOL.

Well, this is a never ending story. Character never enrolled in Southern Miss (we were chipping in to buy his nutty girl friend a ticket there as reportedly she caused a lot of his problems at UL).

No one knows where he is. From the #3 ranked recruit to a disappearance. What else is untold?
