You probably saw this on the news somewhere, but that coach was dang angry, I can tell you that!

For those of you with dial-up (like me) with not enough time on your hands to load the video, an assistant highschool coach got a little over zealous and tackled a football player!

He was a Youth Football Coach. This wasn't even a high school game. It was like Pop Warner League.

Unfortunately, this stuff happens too much. I've umpired and coached Little League baseball and I've been threatened on a couple of occasions - once by a Dad whose son was pitching. The misguided Dad thought his kid was Randy Johnson and that I was crazy for calling balls instead of strikes. Honestly, the porr kid couldn't hit the plate if he tried to sit on it.

But the dad kept me heckling me so I politely told him between innings that I could eject him from the stands if he persisted. His response, "Why don't you just come outside the fence and I'll kill you right now."

I had a game I was coaching disrupted by two parents on the opposing team fighting each other in the stands. One parent told the other his kid shouldn't be playing and all heck broke loose. Cops had to be aclled to remove them.

I had to fill out a police report on a coach who pushed a 10-year-old player into a fence in the dugout because he tried to leave the bench while being screamed at by the coach.

Now, these incidents all took place within about a 5-year period. They happen in every league, every sport. Hard examples need to be made of the people who do this crap.

I have coach baseball at several different levels and have been a umpire for many years. The little league parents can be bad. Girls softball parents are worse. I have have experiences like the ones you describe. Mostly from parents and people who know nothing about the sport.

Pop Warner and Little League are about teaching fundamentals. They are about teaching the game. I have always tried to win at anything I do, but not at the expense of doing things right. Little league and Pop Warner isn't about scores, it is about kids learning the game. (Although I am not a supporter of the don't keep score crowd. Winning and losing are part of the game. You have to learn how to do both.)

Speaking of crazy parents, I was watching CNN Headline News, there was another story of a parent who got in a fight with a coach over his son's playing time; he pulled a gun on him!!

There are some crazy people in society huh?
