Here's a link to the story. It's about English becoming the national language:

I'm all for this. The last thing America needs right now is another Quebec.

Did anyone hear Harry Reid call the bill racist? Is it just me, or is he just out there? He has to be regarded as one of the worst leaders of the Democratic party. They seriously couldn't find anybody that has better leadership skill than him?
#1: The bill is not racist. It's the way things have been in the U.S.
#2: He was right when he said that it was directed toward the immigrants. As in, "you come here, you do it our way!" If the Mexicans want to talk Spanish between their family or friends because they want to is not against the law. The bill's purpose was just to signify we have a national language.

People have to have a way to assimilate into the country. Having one common language is the easiest way for people to be able to make it here. There is nothing wrong with beingg bi-lingual, but to make it here you have to be able to read, write, and speak the language that most people speak.
If you planned to spend the rest of your life living and working in China, it would make things easier for you if you could understand Chinese. It isn't racist, it is common sense.

I've always felt that people that refused to learn our language were, in a way, slapping us in the face.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.
The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.
See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I don't think it is that. I think they don't learn because learning another language when you are older is hard and no one makes them learn. It has alway been that way with first generation immigrants. It was always the second generation that learned the language. I am not against helping them learn, but if they don't at least learn how to speak the language they will have a hard time here.
