My son gave me an I pod with my (and his) favorite group on it as a songlist. While he is only 26, he grew up listening to the Stones, Marley, Santana, and Doo-Wop. His favorite music is the Stones.
I was listening today and was moved by his gift...
I can remember with such clarity, as a high school senior in 1964, hearing the Beatles endlessly on the radio with "I want to hold your hand" and "she loves you". Then juxtaposed against this sweetness came out Mick Jagger's "Time is on my side" with it's blues influence. I was hooked.
"Tumblin' Dice" still makes me shiver as I hear Mick and Keith lay down the song with Charley drumming and a honkey tonk piano carrying the tune. The Keith Richards riffs are a classic. I was out of the Corps and back in school when this came out. It is a quintessential rock tune.
The "You can't always get what you want" (long organ version) is probably my favorite tune. And I find it personally satisfying.
Life has been good to me...and it so unusual to have a rock band that has been there with me from 1964 to 2010 as I progressed through life's stages.
Here is to another year, more Stone's releases, and a son who put a tear in his dad's eye.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Happy Birthday...and 1964 was a good year for the Razorbacks (only undefeated team that year after the bowl games).
"A team with something to play for is dangerous, but a team with someone to play for is unstoppable..." Arkansas OL Brey Cook quote following the death of teammate Garrett Uekman (Nov. 2011).

How funny. You and I have the same birthday. There is just one difference...You are turning 64, and I was born in '64, the year you were a senior.
So, happy birthday fellow birthday brother, and Semper fi as well.
