Has anybody ever seen anything so embarrassing and unpresidential? Obama has spent the past couple of weeks seeing to this tax deal, and it really was a decent deal for him. Obama gets an extension on unemployment, a continuance to a portion of the estate tax, and a two year sunset. With that he had the opportunity to pretend as if he is bringing the country the needed tax relief rather than obviously being dragged into it by House Republicans as would/will be the case next year.
So, when his compromise faces a bump due to opposition in his own party, does he show the leadership qualities expected of even a mediocre President and see the legislation passed? Does he prove himself to have the bipartisan skill that he touted in 2008?
No, he punks out and leaves Clinton at the podium alone as if it were 1999. What a loser. As much of a mixed blessing as George W. Bush was at times, at least he stood firm in the face of far tougher challenges than this - and went out of his way not to call on his father for backup.
What does Obama plan to do in another month when a lot more Republicans arrive in D.C, call in Clinton to fight his battles for him when things get hard? Mitt Romney had it right; this President is a politician and a bureaucrat, but not a leader. Gov. Bobby Jindal hammers this theme in his new book as well (very good read). Hopefully they're our next President and Vice-President... might as well let them take over right now, since Obama seems not to have the guts for the job.
Who, exactly, is President here?

The reason Obama gave in on this compromise is because he knows he can't do better in a month. My problem with all of this is that no one is paying for anything - again. It seems that Republicans have yet to learn there lesson either.

The only solution is for the states to take back control of themselves and that requires turning away federal $$$$.

Re: Who, exactly, is President here?
This is all such a joke! I am so tired of any and every form of pork...trade-offs...and "deal making" in DC. Any person with some basic economic ability knows you can't raise taxes in a bad economy. (And that also goes for not continuing a tax-break!) Trading off another enxtension to Unemployment is a joke. Let's do one really good thing and one absolutely ridiculous thing that is so bad it makes the really good thing bad! Awesome, congratulations idiots!!!
If the Dems want the rich to pay more money then they should have pushed through a National Sales Tax. They should have added a luxury taxing offest to it and call it done. When you play you pay and everybody pays. The Republicans would have been on a path of political suicide if they fought to block it. But, they chose the Health Care abomination pursuit instead and set themselves on a political suicide path.
Extending Unemployment Benefits just guarnateed we will have many people on a 3 year all expenses paid, yet unpaid, trip to absolutely unemployable status. People are so stupid!

There IS a concerted effort to bankrupt this country. It's not simply a matter of opinion on how to grow the economy. The Democratic party has gone so far left that it's apparent to me that there is no one in the party who really cares about America anymore. They are only interested in class warfare, social justice, and regulating toilets.
Their votes and tone of voice indicate that Cloward and Piven are their role models, and they don't even care to hide it anymore.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I here and more and more cries that many in the Democratic Party have gone well beyond poorand ignorant practices. Many are saying the only mission they could be on is bankrupting the US. (If this is true I would have to guess the plan is a Reformation under a Socialistic Goverrnment. And I would also have to suspect they plan on not being responsible of the "Old Governments" debt! I wonder how they think the debt holders will take to that? )
