Spring Game

Postby Swamp Daddy » Fri Mar 29, 2013 10:22 pm

With the NCAA basketball tourney going on it's difficult to worry about spring practices or the Spring Game; but, so far, the coaches are quite pleased with the improvements over last year's game. Coach Vance Beford likes the defense and the now deep, as well as talented, receiver core. Red/White game soon.

3 4-star transfers who sat out last year are doing well in spring practice according to coaches. They will all start in 2013 for UL this year. They should provide a major boot to DL and OL.

I didn't watch or attend Ga's Spring Game, but I've read some of reports on the game. I'm excited about what I'm hearing.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Last open practice today; actual red/white game on Saturday. Not sure of the weather so I am not planning on going but will listen to same on the radio. Now that the basketball fever is over in this area it is a long, long wait until fall camp starts.

For a change, the weather was actually nice for the spring game with an estimated 33,000 fans attending. Certainly the biggest turnout in UL history, some details here:

http://uoflcardgame.com/33000-preview-l ... ame/37711/

It was a multi-event. First of all, early comers got to meet players, get autographs, buy swag, etc. from the Sugar Bowl champion team. Second, the UL men's 2013 Championship NCAA basketball team was introduced at halftime. Thirdly, the UL women's 2013 NCAA runner up team was introduced, also at halftime.

Actual scrimmage was a huge success for it's type. Many new players, and players returning from injuries, and transfers who sat out last year tried to shine for the coaches and fans.

Will probably be a very good year next football season.

have fun, Swamp Daddy :)

Boise State played their spring game yesterday. The offense won 29 to 19...the scoring is convoluted so not sure that means much. Both Southwick and Hedrick looked good at QB, the receivers caught the ball. The defense was good, the line especially. Defensive backs were all right, linebackers left some gaps, but I think that is typical in these types of games where you know the plays. Always trying to get the advantage. The best comment after the game was from Petersen when the reporter asked, they did no huddles during the game, if that was what they were going to do during the coming season. Petersen replied, "No, this is practice and we know how to huddle, we that very well."

Watched the FSU spring game Saturday...

The young QB, Jameis Winston, separated himself in the QB battle. He looked great.

He was already building a legend...#1 Rivals Dual Threat QB out of HS. RS last year. Now his legend is growing. His first play of the spring game was a 58 yard TD pass perfectly thrown against the #1 defense. Hit 80% of his passes during his time in the game.

And then, after the game, he ran over to the baseball diamond and got on base three times in the baseball game against Duke.

He has been a baseball buzz since the radar gun clocked his pitch down in Miami last week at 97 mph.

Arkansas spring game is this Sat (April 20). I will be there with what will probably be a huge crowd. Can't wait.

Ohio State took their spring game on the road this year, playing in Cincinnati instead of the 'Shoe. Braxton Miller looked better than last year. Still needs better footwork if he wants to be great. Ohio State has filled some holes from last year at a few positions and reloaded at a few others. They should have a pretty good year.

Mike Riley of Oregon State says the Spring Game for him is now out of control. He would prefer just another practice day. All the hoopla and the baseball games and the basketball game, a day at the school that promotes fan interest and revs everyone out doesn't do a thing for the football team. Riley is probably right if the Spring Game was about football, but we know better, football is hardly about football.

Looks as though Boise State is virtually all (only) about football . . .
