Ohio State track
I'm standing in the French field house at Ohio State for an event with my daughter. I'm looking at the track records on the wall. Jesse Owens set the Ohio State record for the 100 in 1936 and it still stands today. Butch Reynolds broke most of the rest of them, but I find it amazing that he set a record in 1936 that still stands today

I agree. Only she doesn't appreciate the significance of that record standing for that long, considering the changes in training, nutrition, etc.
We were there for the state science day. She is in fifth grade and got a superior and a perfect score on her project. She was the first fifth grader to make it to the state from her school and one of only 21 fifth graders chosen to represent their schools statewide. Pretty cool, but I hope she doesn't think getting there every year is going to work out. Her sister went a couple years ago and hasn't made it past district since. You never really know what the judges are going to like.
I'm pretty proud of the work she put in to her project. She did a nice job. She is very shy and this requires giving an oral presentation to the judges and answering their questions and that sort of thing mortifies her, but she got past it and did it.

They may have to update that stat...
On March 30, Michael Hartfield broke Owens' 77 year old school recrod in the long jump.
Still..,it is pretty fantastic to have that record stand for 3/4 of a century.

With the difference in training, nutrition, and technology it is amazing. Just a phenomenal athlete. He was one of those once in a generation athletes.

I remember Hitler not being too fond of Jesse either.
