Ohio State versus Florida A & M
I quote, ""Well, I don't know enough about the X's and O's of college football," said Gee, formerly the president at West Virginia, Colorado, Brown and Vanderbilt universities. "I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it's like murderer's row every week for these schools." We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day.
New President, new policy, I guess.

It is the third quarter on a drive that would put the Buckeyes up 62-0. OSU with Urban Meyers at the helm, now has a fourth and four on the Florida A&M 33 yard line. He could punt, he could attempt a long field goal, why he could have just taken a knee or ran the ball up the middle, but no, he goes for it, makes it and now they have a 62-0 lead. "On the third-quarter scoring drive that would eventually give Ohio State a 62-0 lead, Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer faced a fourth and four at the Florida A&M 33-yard line. The Buckeyes got the first down and two plays later Ezekiel Elliott ran it in for another Ohio State touchdown. With Urban Myer, Ohio State has gone from one of the classiest to one of the the worst college football beat-downs imaginable.
76-0 you have to be proud.

Re: Ohio State versus Florida something or another
We had Vandy on the schedule and they bugged out last October, but yes Florida A&M qualifies as little sisters of the poor. They pulled the whole first team out in the second half and never attempted one pass and still ran all over them. We had a true freshman RB get 162 yards in the second half. This team took one for their school They should never play a D1 school again. They couldn't even match up with the scout team. A walk on freshman scored today. I don't know that has ever happened at Ohio State before. It wasn't even a good scrimmage.
I do think that if you put a true freshman like Ezekiel Elliott in the game, you have to let him play. Meyer did empty the bench in the second have. I don't think there was one starter that played in the second half except the kicker and the starting QB played a couple snaps until the put stitches in Cordele Jones hand, but Guiton is the second string QB - playing for the injured Miller.
But you are correct that this is something that Jim Tressel would never have done. Although it does seem to be something the ESPN's of the world like to see. That team shouldn't have been on the field with Ohio State. No FBS team should play a FCS team. Even if the FCS team wins sometimes.

Meyer said before the game that he wasn't going to punt today, no matter the situation and it was up to the defense hold them if they wanted a shut out.

I agree. It's one of the things I don't like about him. He is very arrogant. He always has been, since his days at Bowling Green.
I don't think you call of the dogs, though, when you empty the bench. Those guys practice very hard and when they get in the game you shouldn't ask them to not play as good as they can play. The big problem is that Florida A&M should have never been on the schedule. Vandy should not have been able to cancell out on Ohio State so late in the game.

I don't have an issue with FCS teams playing FBS teams. I think teams should try and avoid these massacres though. You aren't tested at all. You would be better off doing an intrasquad scrimmage at that point. Savannah State and most teams from the MEAC and SWAC should avoid FBS teams. They are usually a notch below the top conferences in the FCS, although South Carolina State and Bethune-Cookman have had good teams in the recent past. FBS teams can't schedule FCS mid-majors which these schools basically are and these teams struggle against Division II with regularity.
I'm watching Eastern Illinois right now and competitively they are the same as a MAC school. I love seeing a school like North Dakota State get their due against an FBS team that isn't a scrub such as Kansas State. They're one of the top 60 teams in the country and they shouldn't have to continuously play against teams like Delaware State and Ferris State. If you completely cancelled all FCS games you would deny these teams a well-deserved shot.

Ohio State will have their hands full next week against Wisky. The Buckeye D is getting better every week with experience, but I don't know if the linebackers are ready to play big boy football yet and Wisconsin plays big boy football.

I will never like them. All the are, are paydays for the FCS school.

Re: Ohio State versus Florida A & M
Did he go for a 2 pt conversion early in the game, this week? It will be interesting to see if he does that when not favored by 40 or more points.

Re: Ohio State versus Florida A & M
He didn't today, but Guiton is the two pt conversion guy and he was starting or he probably would have. I don't have a problem with aggressive play calling early in the game. I don't mind players playing to the whistle. I just don't like having an FCS team on the schedule.
Of course Tressel took crap from the talking heads for not winning by enough. I think mostly they just like to not like Ohio State. Meyer is never going to get points for being humble and shooting people in the foot. He always tries to shoot them in the head. Bielema from Arkansas has the same arrogant attitude. I think the Arkansas fans will grow tired of his act pretty quick.

No one thinks in a lopsided game you should not play hard and tough, execute well. Spence is right...if you want to be a National Champion...whatever that is, then schedule top teams when you have a choice. Coaches do not need to be jerks anymore than players. I'm just ticked my teams all are drinking the kool-aid this season.

Re: Ohio State versus Florida A & M
Ohio State played everyone on the bench that isn't redshirted or injured including 21 walk ons. The games leading rusher Ezekiel Elliott was a 5th team true freshman RB.
No reason to pile on. I agree, but the coaches did play absolutely everyone that was eligible to play. That doesn't mean this coach isn't an arrogant SOB. It also doesn't mean Ohio State doesn't have a ton of problems. The whole defensive line is hugely talented and very green. The linebacker position is very, very thin and the starters don't tackle well. The roster is short several players because of the NCAA suspensions. This is the most talent I have seen on an Ohio State team since the early 2000's. They are probably not going to make enough progress to get to the championship game this year, but they are very fun to watch. Even the warts.

I don't disagree with you on this, however, I have always liked him, even when he was at Wisconsin. He, like most all coaches must win, and I am not sure how patient the fans will be. Many, including myself, did not like the firing of Petrino.Spence wrote: Bielema from Arkansas has the same arrogant attitude. I think the Arkansas fans will grow tired of his act pretty quick.

Re: Ohio State versus Florida A & M
Bielema isn't nearly as good a coach as Petrino. I hope he works out for you, but he makes some very poor coaching decisions. Barry Alvarez was the guy who made Wisconsin hum. He was probably the best coach in the Big Ten since Bo.
Ohio State will find out if they can play ball this week. I don't think we have progressed enough defensively to win this game. You couldn't really tell where the are by yesterday's game. We haven't done a good job tackling yet this year. Offensively we can hang with anyone. Problem is that you have to play on both sides of the ball.
