Rose Bowl Question

Suppose the following:

- Oregon runs the table, and does go to NCG
- Stanford also wins all remaining games (after losing to Oregon), giving them 2 losses in the conference
- The winner of the south division goes into the CCG with 2 losses

Who goes to the Rose Bowl between 2-loss Stanford and 3-loss south champion (after losing the CCG)? Would it change if Stanford had one fewer loss than the south champion (before CCG)? Does it matter if there's a cross-over game between Stanford and the winner of the south?

**I guess the same could happen in the B1G too, theoretically, with Wisconsin having a better conference record than the winner of the Legends. Is this a Rose Bowl choice, or is it governed by Conference rules?

**I expect I should already know this from past, but I've never really paid attention, and I thought Rose Bowl was different in some ways than others.

I don't know about the PAC12, but the B-10 champ goes to the Rose. If they somehow are picked to go to another BCS bowl, then it is up to the Rose bowl to pick. They can pick who they want in the B-10 or pick from another conference. It is their choice. I would think they would go away from the B-10 this year if that happened.

I think Spence is right. The Pac-12 gets their choice of replacement provided they are eligible. Sometimes they've reached to get a Big 10 vs. Pac-12 matchup (USC vs. Illinois in 2007). I had UCLA in at 9-3 as South co-champs but losers of the division, but that was with Stanford losing to Oregon State, which didn't happen. Stanford is probably a lock for a 10-2 record now, so they would be the favorites over the UCLA/Arizona State winner.

The BCS has a history of passing over a championship game participant for a team that qualified for the BCS but didn't have to play the extra game. Kansas got in over Missouri in 2007 and Michigan got in over Michigan State in 2011. I believe this happened in the SEC more than once over the last decade.

The Champions of the Pac 12 and the Big team meet in the Rose Bowl, unless one or both of them go to another, which would be a BCS bowl. If this is the case the Rose Bowl Committee decides. Use to be when college football was just that, a school could not go to the Rose Bowl two years in a role and the runner up went.

It was also true that B-10 teams who didn't make it to the Rose weren't allowed to go to any bowl. Then they discovered how much money they could make by having more teams play in bowl games.
