Out of curiosity, what was your thought just before the 2010 Rose Bowl? Personally, I thought Oregon would beat Ohio St. pretty easily, but I was wrong. I think most people thought the same thing back then, but I didn't get the opportunity to get your sage observations, or any from those with substantial Bucks insight like you. It might be interesting to compare your views then to now, even if both teams look a bit stronger than then.

This also serves as a segue into a question I've wanted to ask about Ohio State and Baylor. I definitely defer to Spence's superior knowledge, but what are the primary factor(s) for why CCR 125 clearly do not have the same reservations about those two teams? Even more specific, why did Ohio State leap from 5 to 2 after playing a team that would not appear to have much relevance? It's got to be some stat, like maybe total yards differential, and I'd sure like to know.

That aside, we'll be able to let reality determine Baylor's mettle in the next few weeks. Those Oklahoma teams sure look good, even if I've often failed to give them their due this year.

I hoped our defense would stop them. I knew theirs couldn't stop us. They have a different make up this year. We are more like they were on defense and they are more like us. I didn't think the game would be as easy as it ended up being, but I thought Ohio State would win.
As far as the CCR125, I don't have anything to do with it and I don't have a clue how it works. You would have to submit that question to the site owner.

I bet Eric can find the threads when Mr. Congrove explained it on this site. That was interesting. What else does Eric have to do, anyway?

He's still here, but only posts when something relevant about the CCR comes up or if there's some kind of administrative stuff to deal with. We haven't had any issues for a long time with flaming or people breaking the rules. Us moderators are kind of obsolete right now

Judging from his posts, he's like an eloquent diplomat, brilliant educator, and nerd all rolled up into one. Like I said: impressive. Feel free to start flaming me if it will draw him out!

He created all of this, well him and his son. He is a huge football fan. If you read the regular site much you can tell he is a cfb guy like most guys here, but a little more tuned in. I do know that often times he doesn't agree with the computer's rankings, but instead of changing them to meet what he thinks - which is what the BCS committee had the BCS computers do - he lets the results stand for themselves and stays true to his algorithm.

Eric wrote:Personally I think that Oklahoma is going to get steamrolled by 25+. OU has a good secondary, but Baylor's vertical game is a completely different animal. Baylor can also make Oklahoma one-dimensional. I'm not sure if people realize how good Baylor might actually be. Oklahoma State is the one team I think on Baylor's schedule that has a good shot to beat the Bears since they are balanced enough offensively.

I'm sold on Baylor too, but a quick question. Are you saying that defense is largely irrelevant (since neither OU or OSU can stop Baylor), and therefore, it's mostly a question of being able to keep up in a shootout?

It's not irrelevant, it's just a matter of being able to cover Goodley or Reese one-on-one, and I think most teams in the country don't have that ability. They can tackle, which is an upgrade over teams like Iowa State and Wofford, so the Sooners have that going for them. Baylor isn't going to score 70 on Thursday night. But Blake Bell is an average passer and I think Baylor is going to stuff the box to make Bell beat them through the air. The question is whether or not Blake Bell can account for enough production to hit 40 points against a solid (not elite) defensive unit. In my estimation, that answer is no, but I could be wrong as always. If Baylor doesn't shoot themselves in the foot like they did against Kansas State, I think 40 points for them is almost a given which a chance to hit 50.

Oklahoma State's passing game is Jekyll and Hyde right now. They have a history of having a lot of production through the air and they have good receivers, but Chelf and Walsh had been sketchy throwing the ball and Jeremy Smith's yards per carry plummeted. They handed the RB job to Desmond Roland who has had two straight great games rushing and Oklahoma State looks back on track as far as being a great offensive team goes. Roland is more of a downhill runner and Smith has been dancing around too much.

There's something about this that makes me feel like I'm in a SF novel or in the distant future. Come home, call up my holo-display and submit a voice query to the Encyclopedia Retrieval and Intelligent Classification system, affectionately known as E.R.I.C.

Robot implications aside, that helps me a bunch with perspective.

Been at the cabin for a week...but..

Baylor, so far, has played nobody with a real defense..no really good team...

Wofford, Buffalo, ULM, WVU, Kansas, ISU...and then Kansas State (who they beat 35-25).

Then you would be an awfully good confidence man. Just need to work on admissions like the above.
