Question for Spence (et al.)

Postby Duke1632 » Fri Nov 01, 2013 10:59 pm

I've noticed the B1G has a bunch of these trophy icon games, like the little brown jug, and paul bunyon, axes, bulls, etc. One thing I've noticed though is I haven't seen any of those associated with Ohio State. I think they are cool, like mini-rivalry tokens/championships. Does OSU have any of those with other B1G teams? If so, what is that trophy. If not, why not?

The only Trophy game is with Illinois. Illinois used to be a much bigger rival than now. The trophy is called the Illibuck and it is a turtle shell. It used to be a live turtle, but the turtle died. The only real rivalry game we have is the Michigan game. It doesn't have a trophy associated with it. Buckeye players who win that game get a pair of gold pants as part of a tradition, but there is no trophy. The trophy is the pride of beating the rival. Buckeye fans are always focused on beating Michigan. It means more to us than being in the championship. This is something most people on the out side don't understand. I'm not sure I do either, but I know if we lose to them it is a long bowl season.

I never would have guessed a turtle, but thinking about it, that's really cool.

Here is a back ground for the trophy. It tells the whole story. It was never a big deal (in my lifetime anyway) so I never paid much attention to it.

I like looking at the trophies, the homemade ones seem to have the most appeal, other than the The Boot 24 Carat gold....175 pounds....that is worth approximately 3.5 million dollars.........What is a chrome Milk Can worth?

Hope you enjoyed your stay at the cabin. Your team is dominating, I hope you get a chance to see how dominating they really are. Whoever plays Alabama, it looks like they will now be undefeated, needs to win or we may as well reset the board....

I like the holy war trophy and the Oaken bucket. Living as close to Kentucky as I do, I have to like anything Oaken.
