Trivia

Postby donovan » Tue Nov 12, 2013 10:56 am

What ever happened to that site?...not that most everything posted elsewhere doesn't qualify or that Eric has another life.

So...here is the question? What was the deciding factor for Jameis Winston to choose Florida State over Alabama?

To be a dual sport athlete? I think Sabin would have a problem with that.

Right on both counts based on the article I read.

I figured Sabin wouldn't allow it. Not to hard to read between the lines on that one. Sabin is the king of the hill right now. He doesn't have to take the duel sports kids now if he doesn't want too. Other schools trying to get to be at Alabama's status have to give more.

Well in that case, I hope it's his undoing as Jameis defeats mighty Bama in the national championship 8)

Or Ohio State. Or Baylor. Really anyone not named Alabama I will take at this point

I think they have a shot. Still it is going to be tough to take a freshman QB into the championship game.

His O-line has kept him safe all year --- It'll be interesting to see how well he plays against a team whose D-line can play at full speed all game; making the adjustments necessary to retaliate the offensive changes your coach will be making at the half.

I just think `Bama is something the `noles haven't seen before.

That said; even in a loss, it will be a great development tool to learn from, for next season.

Alabama is a team most haven't seen before, but I think you are right. It will be tough. Still out of all I have seen so far, and I haven't seen enough of Baylor yet, Florida State is the team I think is most likely to give Alabama a good game. They have a good enough defense that I believe can keep the game close, Even if the freshman QB makes a few freshman mistakes.

What Florida State really reminds me of is 2008 Oklahoma. That team was an absolute juggernaut. Phil Loadholt, Ryan Broyles, Sam Bradford, Joaquin Iglesias, Gresham, and DeMarco Murray.

The biggest similarity is in their offensive line and just in general the execution. A dual-threat guy like Nick O'Leary just doesn't do anything wrong. Devonta Freeman, nothing wrong. Wilder Jr, nothing wrong. Rashad Green and Kelvin Benjamin, nothing wrong. Add that in with a future NFL QB and an offensive line that can just push everyone around with ease, and you get those 35-0 first quarters. I think the difference is that this Noles team has a more prolific defense that can cause havoc.

On the flip side, when Oklahoma that year met one of the top five defenses in the nation in Florida, they were held in check. Florida's defensive line really neutralized a huge reason why Oklahoma just schooled most of the teams in the Big 12. Miami has a very athletic front seven, but I think Alabama's is in another league. It would be really interesting to see if FSU could score on Bama with anything resembling the ease that they've scored on teams like Clemson and Miami who, while athletic and talented, are still a little bit of a work in progress.

I've got to root for O'Leary. His grandpa may be the greatest Buckeye of all time.

I think they could score a couple of fast TD's on Bama . . . think West Va vs Georgia Sugar Bowl.

The difference, is that the Tide won't take as long to adjust their defense, and slow the `noles down, forcing them to play Alabama's game.

Bama will slow them down. I just think that Florida State has the defense to play that game too and with a turnover here or their, they have a shot at that crystal football.

I don't disagree with you, though, if the game were today, I would take Alabama.

I think Alabama would\will be the favorite, but I haven't made up my mind who I will take yet. I think Florida State has a real shot.
