I am not a Texas fan. Don't like the team nor the school. In my opinion they are high on the whiner and sense of entitlement list. Have never followed them more than other teams off the West Coast, but when I do, I never get the feeling, I hope they win. The comes Strong.

Charlie Strong makes me want Texas to succeed. I don't know him. Have not followed him. I think he is a good coach and a man of character that is good with placing the latter foremost. I wish him well.

I'm a Charlie Strong fan as well, but I don't know if he will be able to make Texas into what the fans want it to be. He built some pretty good defenses at Louisville, but he had an elite QB to build around with Teddy Bridgewater. Texas' problems the past few years (besides the run defense) have mostly been at the QB position. I guess it can't be too hard to find a QB at Texas, but apparently it is easier said than done.

Right now, Texas is getting beat in State for recruits ... but, their name, as donovan eludes to, carries some weight, yet.

Charlie Strong did have the benefit of an elite qb, because Randy Shannon was relieved of his head coach position at Miami (Bridgewater was a solid Miami commit before Shannon was fired --- I'm not going to say why he chose Louisville over Miami in the end as it was not due to the looming NCAA ruling --- it was more of an issue that has a sensitive subject matter attached to it). Texas is in fertile enough ground for recruiting. There are only so many places for these kids to go. And turning down Texas to be a backup qb at another school is highly unlikely.

The question isn't whether Texas will be able to attract key skill position players. It will be in how well Strong & company evaluate the talent these prospects have when considering them.

Texas is doing exceptionally well, when you look at how thin their depth has become, because Charlie is cutting loose ends to build the team he knows can be a winner ... both on & off the field.

The coach is the face of the program in the college game. I hope strong can succeed, someone needs to set a good and notable example in this day and age that character and education 1st can lead to on-field victories as well.

Given the state of conversion they are going through in Austin I think the only thing to watch on the field is how his current team will dig in and fight. Keeping gawdy numbers off of the scoreboard could help a good deal in the recruiting effor, IMO. This week may not bode well for that endeavor.
